So when I left Montana I used hotel points to spend 3 nights in West Yellowstone. This hotel is one of the most expensive (points wise) hotels I have ever stayed at. Three nights cost me 75000 points which is insane, but I figured WTF.
I will start at check in. When we arrived at the hotel there was a cart with cookies and juice sitting out so my Dad helped himself to a cookie and some juice. Almost immediately a staff member showed up and chastised my Dad for taking a cookie and juice as they were for a “tour group”. My first reaction was of utter disbelief. If a hotel is going to put out juice and cookies in the lobby, they should be for everyone. As a Platinum Priority Club member I have NEVER been treated so poorly.
The room we received was actually pretty decent and the housekeeping was good, however that is where anything good ends. The trouble began when I tried to access the “high speed” internet. The internet speeds were unusable at best and non-existent at worst. I placed a couple of calls to the front desk and was given a canned speech about how the town only has so much bandwidth and it is as good as it gets. As an IT professional this is an insult to my intelligence and totally unacceptable. Just to verify that it was in fact a lie, I spoke with some friends of ours that were staying at another hotel in town and they had ZERO issues with their internet service, which tells me that it is simply a fact of the hotel being to cheap to purchase adequate bandwidth to support the number of guests staying there.
Upon checkout I asked to speak to a manager about my concerns and there was suddenly nobody available to speak with me, however the desk clerk asked me what my complaints were. When I told her I thought the service and hotel were extremely overpriced for the service and room we received, she responded and I quote “You stayed here on points, there was no price”. I don’t know about you, but I do consider points a type of currency as a reward for loyalty. For 25,000 points a night I expected nothing but first class accommodations, but what we got wasn't even close to a Motel 6.
I have NEVER been treated so poorly by a hotel in my life, and lately working for FEMA you know I have gained some serious experience dealing with hotels.
So I get the first form letter about a week ago from guest relations... they credited me 5500 points back to my account... 5500 points isn't even 10%... WTF. So I sent yet another letter and received the exact letter word for word this time they credited me 7000 points... So now we are in the 10-15% range... but I am sooooo pissed off by the insult to my intelligence that if I am not refunded the whole amount the next time around there is no way in hell I will ever stay in another Priority Club hotel. There is no way in hell I would ever stay at the West Yellowstone Holiday Inn again, not even on a fucking dare...
