We were at the grocery this evening and needed some shrimp. They had Texas wild caught shrimp, which looked pretty good and some Vietnamese farm raised shrimp for about the same per pound price which was already shelled and deveined. I was mulling this over and remember my wife telling me the story of going outside Saigon to a fish farm belonging to her uncle's friend. She said that the children were afraid to use the outhouse because the fish pond was only about six inches belong the toilet seat and that the water would start boiling with thrashing fish when someone's ass hit the seat. Maybe someone else is green conscious enough to appreciate recycling to that degree but I'm going to stick with the shrimpers from Galveston for the indefinite future. My wife told me that the workers at the shrimp and fish farms in Vietnam would not eat their own product. Bad sign.

There was an old saying back in high school, "flush twice it's a long way to the cafeteria" but this beats all. At our local fish market we always prefer the farmed over wild. The place has a daily shipment from the Fulton Fish Market.

I have a problem eating most of the "bottom feeders" but will if well prepared. However, I will avoid any farm raised water dwellers in my own cooking efforts. We are a long ways from fresh seafood, but the big lake offers a lot of tasty treats.

In principle, I'm against eating seafood because you're consuming something that basically lives in its own toilet.

Not to mention their "life style" habit of ejaculating all over the place and hoping that some of it lands on an egg to be fertilized.

Well, given that practice, if I criticized them for that, I'd be rather hypocritical since I pretty much do the same thing.

Vietnam would not eat their own product. Bad sign. That's why we get it so cheap here.

BTW, if someone ever offers you any Coney Island Whitefish, you could probably skip that, too.

Despite this thread I'm still going to eat my favorite, raw clams and beer.
