After the hell on earth that we experienced with the bathroom renovations this past winter (not that anything went wrong; it was just incredibly annoying not to have a shower for two weeks!), I don't know what possessed me to do the kitchen this summer. But it had to be done. We're now about three weeks into it, and it is starting to approach its final state. That is, things are starting to look good. I've been posting updates at Facebook most every day. You can see them at the following link. Note that you do NOT need a Facebook account to view the album: Kitchen Reno!!

Re: your bathroom... did the contractor give you an inaccurate estimate or did you know you'd be without a shower for two weeks? Did youse guys wind up living in a motel for that two weeks? I'm assuming your place has a smaller 2nd bathroom that's pretty much toilet-only.

No, his estimate was accurate. We knew it would be about two weeks. And yes, our other bathroom was a toilet/sink only. We took a lot of "bird baths" in that sink, and occasionally went to my brother's house to use his shower.
Living without a working kitchen is a lot easier, if you ask me. We set up the Foreman Grill and Microwave in the dining room, as well as the fridge, so we can pretty much do as we please.

When we moved into this house back in '03, we renovated the kitchen before we even moved in. Back then the contractors were riding high and were not motivated to finish the work on time, so when we finally moved in, they were still working. We worked around them. It was finally worth it.
We recently redid the master bathroom as well. For while had to move into a guest room. I also remember having to walk nekkid to the pool bath to shower. We have curtains up around the pool cage, so that was cool.
Well, I guess we didn't HAVE to walk nekkid to the pool bath, but it seemed the thing to do.
Whatever . . . .
