How many people can say that their favorite singer when they were 10 yrs old, is still their favorite now? Saw his concert tonight at the Beacon, and he still puts on the best concert ever. Although even a bad Meat Loaf concert is better than any other.

How many people can say that their favorite singer when they were 10 yrs old, is still their favorite now? My eleven-year-old niece can say that! But hers is Lindsey Lohan. But, re: Mr. Loaf (as the Wall Street Journal once called him), I'm surprised (pleasantly!) that he's still alive. A great singer, indeed. And a pretty decent actor, too; loved him in "Fight Club"......Jake

I saw Meatloaf twice in the early 80's and again in 1994. Those first two concerts were probably two of the best I've ever seen, and I've been to a lot of concerts over the years. I'm kicking myself now that I didn't see him when he was over here in July so I would have seen him in three consecutive decades.

Most of my Meatloaf memories lie in his scintillating portrayal of Eddie in "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Most notably the words Love/Hate on his knuckless, vroom vroom.
But one night in Chicago (in the days of his lowest popularity after his "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" song--which I've enacted with too many men to count--made him a cult figure more than his Eddie role) he was supposed to be playing a little bar I was visiting...and his monster-sized silver travel bus was parked outside the door of the bar (northside of Chicago).
We waited and waited and by 11:30 were tired of waiting and the warm up band had long gone...so we were just about to exit the door of the bar when: there he was...stumbling out the door of his monster silver thing, he took a last swig of the gallon of vodka he carried, threw the bottle to shatter on the pavement, and pushed past us to run up onto the stage and begin his not-bad performance, which we slunk back in to see.

At age 10 my fav singers were the Beatles...still are! Too bad they broke up and some died though. But in the classic words of a 13-year-old: "You mean Paul McCarntey was in a band before Wings?"

I've watched 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' many times. Sam had never seen it until we watched it together a few months ago. Now she's hooked.

While I was a teenager, they showed it at the local theatre, but everytime we went, some dumbass would set off a smoke bomb or raise so much hell that you had no idea what was happening!

Never saw Meatloaf in concert, but his Bat out of Hell album is the only record I ever wore out from playing tooo much .. lol Still love that album!!
Saw The Rocky Horror Picture Show 20 times. Half of the shows were in Greenwich Village (fan club headquarters) where half the line outside waiting for showtime were in full costume. A cast of "actors" stood on stage in front of the screen and acted the entire movie as it played behind them. The audience had their "parts" down pat! Now that was the way to see the Picture Show!!
Saw it once on TV a few years back and wondered what all the fuss was about. Can't be appreciated on a small screen in your living room. You need to feel the rice falling and see the toilet paper sail overhead to get the full experience! And without the audience yelling out their lines ... just wasn't the same ....
Funny thing ... with all the wide ranging topics discussed here at Jake's ... which one do I pick to chime in on? Meatloaf and the Rocky Horror. Must be flashback weekend ....
Edited to add ... Where the hell did two Karma points come from??? Haven't posted since the upgrade .... Guess it comes from good clean living ;D

As an ardent psycho fan of RHPS (went to London alone at age 19 for the sole purpose of seeing it on stage), I must admit that men in eyeliner, corsets, and fishnets do it for me.
Back to music....anyone else have Tim Curry's rock albums? "Simplicity" (with the most excellent "Working on my tan") and "Fearless" (with the near-famous "I do the rock") Curry was an opera singer before he took to rock 'n' roll and acting, which likely accounts for his strong sexy voice.
