Goodnight, Irene!
... And moments ago, the weather bureau announced that there was now a tornado watch in effect for the NYC area!
It's been quite a week for us ... earthquake ... hurricane ... tornado ...
Here are some visuals from what I've experienced this afternoon in my small corner of Brooklyn ...

First of all, the MTA shut down all mass transit throughout the city starting at noon today. So, if you don't have a car or can't get a taxi and you haven't gotten out of Dodge by now, you ain't gonna! Here's the roped-off entrance to the Manhattan bound train in my Brooklyn neighborhood ...

Here's the avenue where I live shortly after 5PM this afternoon ... Notice that both the bar and the liquor store are now CLOSED! WTF, seriously! Other liquor stores in the area were doing great business today and the restaurants/bars were absolutely *packed*! What were these guys thinking? To be honest, that liquor store in the video was opened earlier, but only for a few hours and closed early. However, there were others that stayed open throughout the day. Quite a few people have taken this as an opportunity to have a hurricane party either at local bars/restaurants or at home (after stocking up on various wines/spirits).

This has absolutely nothing to do with the hurricane, except for the fact that due to the storm, I had to do a helluva lot of clean-up around Casa Bukkake today, so I just thought I'd toss it in purely for its sheer entertainment value ... Hopefully, I either puked or pissed (or both) on this alcoholic pedophile.

Surf's up dude. Just a thought-make sure you have plenty of water-even if you just fill up glasses and pots and pans out of the tap. If there is a water service interruption, these will come in handy. YMMV but in my experience, when the wind hits 70 MPH, the power won't stay on long.
Good luck to you Beeb

Thanks, Tex. Bought a bunch of water Saturday afternoon, hopefully won't need it much and I *really* hope that the power won't go out. Already heard that even though the storm will pass us by Sunday afternoon, subways won't be back in service until late Monday -- it'll be an interesting chat with my boss in the morning after I've already had a long weekend. Not looking forward to this at all.

Winds are approaching 60mph, so many (if not all) bridges & tunnels are being closed.
Only one way out, baby ...

You actually bought water?? With a well stocked bar, that is the sign of a desperate man. I believe that first video is actually from Hurricane Snookie.

Select 55 is not bad if you are in the mood for something very light. How's it going this morning Beeb?

Guess what, Tex? I still have electricity! ;D
I'll try to see if I can grab some more photos/videos later, but there really isn't much to show, as far as I can tell -- based on the view from my terrace, I can't see any flooding or downed trees/power lines, but I'll know more after I've done my version of a "walkabout" later on.
The good thing is that they originally predicted a foot of rain and we only got about half that.

He's getting a little long in the tooth, but here's the guy you need. We saw Adam West and the Batmobile last night at the Austin Bat Fest on Congress Avenue Bridge. It was still over 100 degrees at 9PM with no breeze at all. I'd bet that there was some bat sweat inside that suit. The high is forecast at 112 today. Maybe would trade weather with you today. I feel sorry for that poor bastard if he's in such bad financial shape at his age that he needs to get money by making personal appearances in that ratty-looking outfit that probably never gets dry cleaned.

At 5:30 this morning my alarm servicing company called me to report a call. I knew it could only be the wind and rain pounding the doors and windows. I grabbed this picture while traveling. In all my years driving this mountain road I never saw water this high. I did the smart thing and crossed it.

Well, sorry to disappoint you inglorious basterds, but it's pretty dull here in my part of town. Try as I might to find a downed live power line laying in a curbside puddle that I could play with, no such luck. In fact, this pipsqueak was the only downed tree I could locate: This frail little thing probably would've fallen over if I had so much as sneezed next to it.

Friday afternoon, my landlord had his secretary call me and leave a voicemail message telling me to clear out all of the stuff from my terrace, which I dutifully did Saturday morning.

The building in which I live is located on a corner, so that means I only have one other apartment building attached to mine. My neighbor, who is not as fortunate as I am as to have a terrace (outdoor space is at something of a premium around these parts), makes due instead by using their fire escape as a makeshift balcony. As a result, one of my big concerns was that something from their fire escape would be caught up in a strong gust and flown through one of my windows; they never cleared off the chair or any of the potted plants.

Being mayor of Quahog probably doesnt pay well. Hopefully the flooding reached into the batcave
