I bought Amy Winehouse's Back to Black the other week and it hasn't been out of the car cd player since... Hailing from Camden in North London, Amy Whitehouse is a truly talented songwriter with a good ear for melody, and in Back to Black she combines a strong, jazzy vocal style with often frank and honest lyrics recalling tales of love and loss. The album packs some serious attitude and is real soul and jazz, with a touch of Motown, at its very best. My favourite tracks are 'Rehab' about her father trying to persuade her to stop her hard drinking lifestyle (Amy is often pictured by the British press staggering drunk, in true rock star style, out of her local pubs in Camden) and the title track 'Back to Black' which, as strong and infectious as the rest of the tracks are, leaves them in its wake with its dark, brooding beat and tale of a failed relationship. Back to Black will grow and grow on you, and while the musical influence may be American... the message is all British. www.amywinehouse.co.ukSimon

No takers? I'm surprised at you Gary, I thought you had a soft spot for sexy British accents...

Amy Winehouse has a huge talent and it's such a shame that she's having such terrible problems due to her drink and drug addictions which are threatening to destroy her career.

"Amy Winehouse has cancelled all remaining live and promotional appearances for the remainder of the year on the instruction of her doctor. The rigours involved in touring and the intense emotional strain that Amy has been under in recent weeks have taken their toll. In the interests of her health and well-being, Amy has been ordered to take complete rest and deal with her health issues.
Amy says - “I can’t give it my all onstage without my Blake. I’m so sorry but I don’t want to do the shows half-heartedly; I love singing. My husband is everything to me and without him it’s just not the same.”
Refunds for the remaining dates will be issued from the point of purchase.
Her family has requested that the media respect Amy’s privacy at this time. There will be no further comment."
psssst.... Amy Winehouse is a great soul , jazz , and rhythm and blues singer /songwriter. I hope she deals with her problems and gets on the right track.

Hubby bought me Back In Black on Wednesday and I haven't stopped playing it. Great unique voice, catchy jazzy songs, it's the whole package. What a shame that such a talented artist seems to be throwing her success (and maybe her life) away with both hands.
Will she be our generation's Janis?
