There is a LOT of talk going around right now about some significant ch-ch-changes coming for the structure of MLB. This has surfaced from time to time in the past but not so much since the last expansion in '98. But none of the expansions resulted in the radical ch-ch-changes that are currently being discussed. The leader right now is to move the Astros or the Marlins into the AL and do away with all divisions, then the top 5 teams (yes 5) in each league go into the playoffs. Presumably 4 would play 5 in a short "play in series" and with an odd number of teams in each league, interleague play would be a must. Not a bad setup unless your team is stuck in 15th place, and the whole rational for divisions back in 1969 was that no one wanted to end up in 12th place. The players are behind this and the owners are talking. It will be interesting. More

The only realignment I'm interested in is having the Mets moved to Triple A where they belong.

Youre aiming pretty high, could I interest you in a slot in the Puerto Rican Winter League?

Take heart Beeb, the Brooklyn Cyclones start play on Friday. Of course being the Short A Mets affiliate, watching them could be like watching the root of the problem.

They've been playing well the past couple years; they play in Coney Island and even though I live in The BK, it's easier for me to get to the Mets' Shitty Field in Queens via subway than to the ballpark where the Cyclones play.

I dont get it either Joe. One of the "complaints" is that there is the imbalance in the size of the two leagues. To me thats a"big deal". The other issue is that there have been cases where the division winner has had a .500 give or take record and a strong team is shut out because they end up third in a strong division (think AL East). Thats where the "eliminate the divisions" option comes into play and taking the top 4 (or 5) overall from each league. Then one league has 4 out of 14 while the other is 4 out of 16, can't have that... etc

If they are going to make any ch-ch-changes, they should go back to the imbalanced schedule where teams play more games against their division opponents.

My solution is much simpler. We contract to 10 teams in each league. I don’t care who we lose. We reduce the schedule to 154 games with zero interleague play. And there are 2 teams only that advance to post season play. The winners of the AL & NL meet for a best of seven in the World Series. If there is a 7th game it must be played no later than October 11th.
And we blow up the DH while we are at it. Case closed.

If they set the leagues as one with no divisions as it was prior to 1969 I could live with that. Top four make the playoffs. 1 VS 4, 2 VS 3. I could live with that ch-ch-change. I don't think that sub 500 teams belong in the playoffs divison winner or not.

Ultimately, the decision will be based on which generates the most TV revenue.
