Sirius-XM satellite radio had had a special channel on for the last few days, dedicated to Simon and Garfunkle because its the 40th anniversary of their BOTW album... 40 years, goddamnit Marx Brothers movies are 40 years old, not that album.
Listening to the playlist, I had forgotten how talented Paul Simon was in painting pictures with his lyrics. Even beyond the big hits (Sounds of Silence, The Boxer, BOTW), the "second string" songs like Desultory Conversation, Patterns, A Poem on the Underground Wall, America, all have a quality of lyrics that I feel is missing in the current generation of lyricists.

Definitely an awesome album.
I don't remember if it is on this album or not, but they have a haunting song called "The Only Living Boy In New York." The reason that song is on my mind is that it is being featured in a current Honda commercial. No lyrics, just a haunting "ahhhhh" that I assume is mostly Garfunkel and some orchestration.

Yes that was on BOTW. That song has quite a story behind it. They were pressed for time to get the album out when suddenly Garfunkel got a part in Catch-22 and had to take off for filming in Mexico. Paul was left quite alone and despairing for the work that had to be done (it ended up being the start of their breakup). But "Tom" was Garfunkels name during their "Tom and Jerry" days and "Im sure your part will go fine" refers to the filming... listen to it again with that in mind.

Favorite alternative lyrics to a Paul Simon song... "there must be 50 ways to love your lever"

I've heard, "Fifty Ways to Lose your Luggage." I think it was by parodist Robert Lund, the same guy who did "99 Words for Boobs."
