As careful as I am when it comes to surfing the net and protecting my data... I got hit by a fucking drive by virus that is one nasty sumbitch! Following standard protocol I immediately shut down my machine and tried to reboot in safe mode... but it won't even fucking boot now!! If I could get my hands on the fucking sumbitch that wrote this I would tear him limb from limb and shove a blazing red hot poker up his ass till it came out his fucking nose. I am soooo glad I keep my data on separate drives and only need to fuck with Windows and a couple programs.

So what did you do wrong? Are the rest of us at risk? Sorry to think about myself in your time of trauma, but if you can help the rest of us, maybe you'll feel a little better!

All I did was surf the net... this must be some new bastard. I run ESET NOD32 for anti virus and this is the FIRST time it has ever let me down. I was doing some research on some lighting set ups that I might try while in Jamaica... hit on something in google and boom infected. My best guess is that it was embedded in the code in an advertisement.

BTW, this is one of those rogue "Anti Virus" fuckers that tell you that you are infected, but you actually aren't.

Ok, I am on my way to removing this piece of shit. I had to physically pull the drive from the machine, hook it up to a functioning computer via an external disk dock. I then scanned it with my antivirus and it found the offending files, then I also scanned it with Malwarebytes which also found some of its goodies. I put the disk back into my computer and tried booting... no joy. I then had to repair the MBR via the original install disk. I then was able to boot the machine to Safe Mode and do another scan with my antivirus and Malwarebytes. These are currently running and if they give it a clean bill of health I think I got this little fucker. Long story short... if you don't do this shit for a living... you are gonna be spending some money to get a geek to get rid of the fucker.

My wife's computer at the university got infected by something yesterday that sounds a lot like this. The department's IT guy spent the entire day fixing computers in the department, 6 in total, infected with this thing. In each case no one knew how it got into their computer other than it was probably piggybacked on something that appeared totally benign.
At the end of the day he still had no idea what he was fighting, but with the practice he had the clean up down to 1 hour.
