I had my every two year eye exam today and found that getting old has it's effects on your eye sight. No only do you slow down, joints hurt etc., but the old eyes also go along with it.
1. I found out that I have cataracts. On a scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being the worst I am a 2.5 on that scale. My eye doctor says another 7 to 10 years before I have to do anything about it. Okay deal with this issue later.
2. I found that my eye pressure is elevated. After tests today which I all passed 100% they found no damage to my optic nerves from the elevated pressure but the doctor did refer me to a glaucoma specialist to be safe. It is possible that I am a glaucoma SUSPECT. Another damn Doctor to see and something else to deal with now.
3. I have a astigmatism ..(I think they told me about that 2 years ago) No big deal but just another turd on the pile
4. I have noticed on my own that my eye sight has changed in the last year. I can still read the paper without glasses in the morning, but I can not see the out of town score board at AT & T Park anymore with out my glasses and that sucks since I usually leave them in car. The damn scoreboard is only about 440 feet away from our seats.
5. 20/30 eye sight as of today. Things are heading down hill fast.
I used to be able to see a fly shitting on someones plate 10 tables away.
4. After spending $1900.00 for new glasses today (work glasses, after work glasses, and sun glasses) I found out that the cost of the fucking things have gone up considerably since my last pairs in 2009. At least 25%.
Oh well another day and more bullshit to deal with.

Joseph, I feel your pain.
One thing to keep in mind is, a few hundred years ago, you wouldn't have had to deal with these issues. You would be DEAD already!
As far as vision issues go, well, we all have to deal with them. I have contacts, progressive glasses, and computer glasses. So far. I'm sure I'll have an even more specialized collection of optics in a few decades when I'm as old as you are, but fortunately, that won't happen until the middle of the 22nd century.
Take solace in the fact that more and more women, even if they are ugly, will look cute to you with your feeble vision!.........Jake

Jake is right about that "you would be dead already" thing. I can think of a couple things in my life where I would already be pushing daisies. Nothing dramatic by modern terms, but without antibiotics and other modern meds I question what my life span would have been without them.
BTW- Over the holidays, I had to go off my prescription Prilosec for a few days... made me wish I were dead. After that experience (and others) I understand why all of Shakespeares old men characters are angry and killing others. If I had to put up with that kind of continuous 24/7 heartburn, Id be major pissed off and killing whiny people too.

The cataracts are no big deal these days. My dad had the operation and said it was about like going to the dentist. Far cry from when my grandmother had the operation and had to spend weeks with her head between sandbags.

I remember my grandfather having the cataract surgery back in the 60's where they remove the entire lens. He had to wear those 1/2 inch thick glasses for the rest of his life. We have an entire collection of family photos where he cut off peoples heads in the framing, we are pretty sure he couldnt see through the viewfinder and was just guessing where to point the camera.

Apparently, Joe's eyesight is having an impact on his indexing skills as he has two #4's on his list.
As far as modern science is concerned, I'm also one of those that would've been a goner back in 1995 when I was 36 -- that was when I was diagnosed as a diabetic. I still haven't decided if that was a good thing or a bad thing because the meds I take make me feel sick all the time.

Far cry from when my grandmother had the operation and had to spend weeks with her head between sandbags. I remember when my grandmother had hers done. She spent almost a week in the hospitial and couldn't do shit but sit in a chair for 3 weeks after that. We would all be dead if it wasn't for modern medicine.

when I was 36 -- that was when I was diagnosed as a diabetic. Our oldest daughter Cara is diabetic. We found out when she was around 17 or 18. She is 32 now. At first it was just pills but now she has one of the metering machines that she is hooked to. It seems to be better for her since it allows her to keep her blood sugar more level with it than with just the insulin shots.

Maxed out on 4 BP meds and being 52 does wonders for one's dick. I can't see shit either, much less a fly. My doc says I got a nice prostate, however. Thanks, doc! Love that finger . . .

I found that a low-carb diet did wonders for my blood pressure. Did wonders for the cholesterol, too. The dick seems about the same.

I started that at the beginning of the year. Low-carb diet, working out 6 days a week. So far I have lost about 8 pounds, but the blood pressure is still surging at 143/94.
Denice I have 4 work out routines. 30 minutes running on the tread mill, 6 mile walks around town, a real good work out video from Jay Johnson, and Denice had gotten me to try Zumba. The Zumba is the toughest of them all. 25 minutes of that and you are to poop to poop.

I went on Diovan a couple years back after several years of low carbbing did nothing for the BP. I went from 135/100 to 110/80 practically overnight. Only downside, I had to give up Cialis, it caused my BP to crash to 80/65

You know, after thinking about it for a bit and rereading, this thread deserves to be deleted due to "Inappropriate Subject Matter"

We went from astigmatism to Cialis. That has to be some kind of a record for thread drift, even for us.

An old college buddy of mine coined what he called "the first law of elocution," which states, "All conversations degenerate to sex." I've never seen a counter-example. This thread is not one, either.

Plus when I passed the library yesterday I could see that Scooter was none too happy with the cold weather either. Or he could also just be pissed about people trashing his pond.
