Gordon, is it getting a little nipply up there tonight? BTW, you don't belong to one of those "Polar Bear Clubs" by any chance? That sounds like hand in hand with curling.

It's five degrees right here, right now. Going below zero for the night-time low, with a high of seven tomorrow. I'm sure it's a lot colder in Gordon's neck of the tundra.
One dirty little secret about those "Polar Bear Club" things: there is a phase lag in the water temperature as compared to the air temperature. That is, it takes all summer for the water in the Great Lakes to warm up, and it reaches its warmest around September, before the cycle reverses itself. By the same token, it takes all winter for it to cool off.... so in January, it's still relatively balmy.
Of course, you still won't catch ME jumping into it!.........Jake (who may be insane, but I'm not crazy!)

Not doing too bad here. The lake is still open so its keeping us pretty warm, right around zero with -20 wind chills but the snow machine is in high gear, we had 7 inches of snow between 10am and noon yesterday (visibility was about 100 feet) and about 15 inches yesterday total... still snowing.
Over in the arrowhead of Minnesota, Ely to be specific, its -30 but no wind chill.
Jake is right about the Polar Bear Club thing. Liquid fresh water (in nature) is never going to be more than a little bit below 32. While 32 sounds cold (and in the case of water is DAMN COLD) its still, right now about 30-60 degrees warmer than the air.
As with Jake, you wont catch me jumping into that. I am cold water averse and 75 is about my minimum.

Interesting, the schools are running on their normal schedule. I figured with the wind chill there would be a delayed start. 150 inches of snow for the year so far, 30 inches on the ground, and no school days.
Edited: I realized I better pull the soft drinks out of the walk in freezer (garage) before they freeze up.
