Planning on vacationing in The Big Apple some time in the near future? Looking forward to your first experience riding the subways?
After watching this video, maybe you're better off re-considering by endangering your life (and your wallet) by riding a cab ...
Oh, rats!

Rebrand that as the 21st Century Hansom Cab Ride and jack up the fares... how much is the monthly pass for the rat?

I like riding the subway in NYC. But I don't think I'd be so careless as to fall asleep there!
What freaks me out are the elevated trains. We have elevated trains in Chicago, but not so freaking high as the ones in NYC's outer boroughs. Riding those things is like riding in a roller coaster!

Remember the movie "Snakes On A Plane"? I think the sequel should be "Rats On A Subway"!

I wonder if they'll try co-branding with Atkins or Weight Watchers?

Or the Juan Williams version, "Muslims on a Plane."

They offer turn down service with a gnawed piece of chocolate.
My dad told me that the worst night's sleep he ever had was during WW2 when he had a job in southern Ireland and was trying to catch a little sleep on the floor of a pub which was closed for the night. He woke up with a rat chewing on his ear and had to spend the rest of the night on a pool table, which is great if you like extra firm.

I like riding the subway in NYC. But I don't think I'd be so careless as to fall asleep there! This happens pretty frequently. In the rare occurrence that I actually get a seat, inevitably, the man or woman sitting next to me will fall asleep on me -- meaning, they fall asleep and then use your shoulder as a pillow. A not-so-gentle elbow in the ribs usually jolts them back to reality from Slumberland.

How much chloroform do you soak your coat sleeve with before you sit down?

None. I use the noxious aroma of my own natural methane.

I enjoyed riding the subway on both our trips to NYC 07 and 09. I considered it one of the top highlights of our trips since we don't have anything close to it out here. I enjoyed just watching the locals going about their business going to work in morning and going home at night. It was also the cheapest way to get around the city unless you are within walking distance.( Does 52 blocks both ways qualify as close?)
We did not ride the subway after 9:00PM. TAXI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Edited to add: As a visitor I would even think of alling asleep on the subway, way to many other think to look at.
EDITED TO ADD AGAIN:As a visitor I wouldN'T even think of falling asleep on the subway, way to many other think to look at. Started drinking to early today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We ride the subways when in NYC. We have been on them in the wee hours and some of the characters qualify as free entertainment.

I've never had a problem riding the NYC subways late at night. They seem to ALWAYS be pretty well populated, so I never felt unsafe.

Our first night there in 07 we got on the wrong train heading back to the upper east side. We ended up in Queens. Once we got off the train I noticed what we did wrong so we caught the next one back. It was about 11:30PM and only one other person in the station. It made us a little nervous at first. After that no problems.

The NY Post had it on their Web site yesterday and referred to it as the latest "viral video hit", so I think it's been building up steam for the last couple of days.

Say, I bet that rat was a tourist just trying to get information from its fellow passengers on which stop to get out. Wouldnt a real NY rat just gnaw its way out of the subway car through the closed doors?

A real NY rat would just gnaw its way out of the nearest passenger.

Between bed bugs and rats on the subway NYC tourism must be on the decline.

Between bed bugs and rats on the subway NYC tourism must be on the decline. The bedbugs are relatively new, but the rats on the subway are definitely NOT new.
