I'm so excited, I've just ordered 2 tickets to see Barbra on October 15. This is the first time she's ever come to Canada. She has been my absolute favorite singer for 30 years (yes, I know I'm old!!) and I never thought I would ever get the chance to see her. She is also the only person I would ever pay the kind of money I just paid to see perform. Jo

I still love 'Funny Girl'! Funny Lady wasn't as good.. I also loved her in Meet the Fockers. She and Dustin Hoffman were perfect together. DD

Funny Girl is my all time favorite movie, I've probably seen it 30-40 times. I just don't get tired of the music. I also didn't like Funny Lady, but loved A Star is Born and Yentl. I still can't believe I'm going to see her.

I also LOVE Barbra. Always have. Mind you, I HATE her politics, but have been crazy about her singing since her first album. The women can act, produce and direct. My mom saw her perform in a nightclub in Detroit before she made it big on Broadway. I have all her albums and have watched Funny Girl at least 30 times. Additionally, she's a master gardener, also one of my passions. I have the rose she developed in my garden too.
I was going to get tickets to see her perform at the United Center here, but I refused to pay $750 for a seat. Hell, that’s 3 to 4 days at Hedo! The Bob Uker seats were $200. If I'm going to see her I don't want her to be a speck in the distance. I'll likely regret not popping for the good seats after she's gone. I simply can't talk myself into spending that kind of money on a concert.

I simply can't talk myself into spending that kind of money on a concert. I hear that -- Tony Bennett is playing the small theater in Madison Square Garden next month. I wanted to go see him, but tickets are $500! He's 80 now and maybe I'll never get another opportunity (I've already seen him a bunch of times), but I can't justify that price.

Well, I can cross another thing off my "things I want to do before I die" list. I just got back from the concert and it was unbelievable. She still has the voice and range she did 40 years ago! She can belt it out when she wants to, but can also instill so much feeling and emotion in a softly sung lyric as well. Highlights were "Don't Rain on My Parade", "My Man", "People", "Somewhere" and "Happy Days are Here Again". It was a 20,000 + lovefest and it was over way too soon, but it is a memory I will treasure for a very long time. (I know I sound really sappy, I am a classic rock gal in every other respect, but Babs has always gotten to me, I think she has the most amazing female voice of the last 50 years.)
A very tired but happy JO.

I'm so jealous.
Did you hear about the heckler she had during a concert here a few weeks ago? She told him to Fuck off. haaaaaaaa
In his defense, she apparently included one of her political Bush is evil speeches during her concert and this guy took exception to it.
I have to say, if I were paying the big bucks to see her, I wouldn't want to hear her political views either.

There's a little skit in the second part of the concert with a Bush impersonator. It's kinda corny, and from what I read, that is what the heckler was yelling about. I guess she tried to joke with him a few times and when he wouldn't shut up, he got told! The impersonator is the same guy that Bush had on with him at a function and she gives the President kudos for having a sense of humour about himself.
She did make a remark about wearing her beliefs and politics on her sleeve. She said part of the reason for this tour was to raise funds for causes she believes in, including university grants, the environment, and of course, the Democratic party. I'm sure some people may roll their eyes and judge her, but I think so many times, we think, why don't more people who have money and influence try to use that power to effect positive ch-ch-change? Well, that is what I think she is trying to do and kudos to her for that. She could just sit on her pile of money and not try to make the world a better place, but at least she is trying to make a difference. Whether people think her views are right or wrong, she is putting her money where her mouth (and heart) is. I know a lot of you have expressed the view that entertainers should just entertain and shut up about what's important to them. My view is that these people have such a big influence on the general population, it's a good thing if they want to use that influence to ch-ch-change the world for the better and not just to get into nightclubs and buy more stuff. Everyone always has the option to turn them off and not listen, that's the beauty of living in a free country!
OK, off the soapbox now, I'm still on a high from seeing one of my idols last night! JO
edited for spelling
