My guess: Bourdain was trained at The Culinary Institute of America which, I'm given to understand, is located in the Hudson Valley area. I'm guessing he's going there to re-visit his old stomping grounds. The *real* question is why is Bill Murray in that episode? Does he have a house up there?

Bill Murry lives in Palisades, near Al Pacino. My father has seen Bill around locally at different places and once sitting at a bar. The Culinary Institute is in Dutchess County, on the east side of the river. That's a nice area with many historical sites including Franklin Delano Roosevelt's Mansion.
In the trailer Bourdain is at the Conklin Family Apple Orchard which I often go through on my way home from work. It's my "scenic private route" at the base of a mountain, known for it's 1960's hippie and arts and crafts crowd.
Now it's prestigious with big houses, some with views of Manhattan which is 35 miles away.

Well, I watched this episode last night and I suppose I guessed right -- he *did* visit the Culinary Institute. Bill Murray, unfortunately, was just thrown in during the last few minutes of the show.

I personally know the guy on the pontoon boat who sells the hot-dogs. He's been doing that all last summer to offset his slow towing business. His wife mentioned to me over the summer about some guy from the Travel Channel who Richie (her husband) met on the river, but I never thought to ask or suspected who it was. I noticed some creative editing on the show. When they were interviewing the retired guys on the beach the camera would pan the small town on my side of the river but they were from the other side in Verplank! Crafty! Also, New Paltz is a quaint old hippie town and in the village are houses that are 300 years old from the French Huguenot days. The homes are all together on a quiet beautiful street. I spent an afternoon this past June at the Mohonk House and the first that came to mind was a period correct costume party in the mansions piano room with H2 friends during a snowstorm. If you saw the room and the place you'd get the idea. tnmc.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=gotopost&board=tripreprots&thread=10131&post=145531

This picture is off the web. An entire street are these homes, it's fantastic that they survived all these years and make for an interesting walk on a summers evening.

I personally know the guy on the pontoon boat who sells the hot-dogs. Are those good quality all beef hot dogs or tax payer funded hot dogs full of filler?

Believe it or not, they're high quality Boars Head! This town takes it barbecuing seriously and that guy is no different. He does well out there on the river. To bad he can't sell beer, those days are over. The Sheriff Department is always on patrol looking for DWI's.

They looking for handouts Gary? I got within 30 feet or so before they walked off. They've become desensitized to people and it's not uncommon to have 15 stroll by while hanging out in the backyard. The deer population is out of control, they eat everything!
