I suppose you've all heard that NBC has pulled the plug on Jay Leno's prime-time talk show experiment. Now the question is: quo vadis?
There is talk of putting Leno on for half an hour at 11:35 (10:35 Central) and pushing Conan and that other dude each back by 30 minutes. Or of dumping Conan completely and giving Leno his old time slot back.
What do you think? Or maybe a better question is, does anyone care?

Or, another question, what is Conan getting out of this? He was supposed to get a big payday if he didn't get the coveted 11:30PM slot -- he got it, but lost it. Does NBC still need to pay out?

I think they owe him a certain number of millions for a certain number of years, if he's on or not. Sort of like sports dudes.

Hope he works out OK -- I find him a funny guy, but he wasn't up to the task of competing with Letterman.

I think I saw something last week that said Conan could be headed to Fox for new show.

I think Letterman has lost his 'edgieness' and Leno lost his long, long ago. I found him to be unwatchable on the Tonite show and his new show even worse. He lost me way back during the OJ trial with his "Dancing Ito's" every motherfucking nite after motherfucking nite! Not funny the first time, and to constantly repeat it was as if he had NO writers on staff.
If they go ahead as planned, I'll probably watch Letterman for the first half hour then switch to Conan.

If Leno goes to a half hour format that I've heard, does that mean it's all interview and no monolog/comedy bits or vice versa?

Looks like Conan told NBC to fuck off and will not ch-ch-change time slots.

I haven't watched any of them for years, but I still find the little power struggle to be interesting. If I'm watching TV at that time, it's usually either O'Reilly, or some dramatic show that I DVRed.

Did Conan's lawyers screw up in the wording of his contract with NBC? Allegedly, the contract said that he had to be given the Tonight Show, but it didn't stipulate that it had to go on *before* midnight.
Or did they intentionally allow the language to be ambiguous, gambling that this would result in an NBC payout to Conan for a breach of contract?

I lost interest in Leno, Letterman, Conan and the rest of the late nighters years ago. If I am up that late I am usually on line or working in my office.

I think I read somewhere (sorry, no cite) that the contract stipulates the show cannot be moved to a later start than 12:05. Conan signed on to this, but now is claiming that it is unacceptable. I can see his point. It isn't really "Tonight" anymore when you've crossed midnight!

Bring Jack Parr back, he's probably funnier right now than either Conan or Leno... and Im sure Johnny and Ed would be happy to help out

My eldest daughter had just been born then so I used to stay up and do the late feed and take in the events in court. I remember watching Letterman around that time and seeing the 'Dancing Ito's'. I couldn't see what was so funny about them but figured it must be a cultural thing and thought you guys obviously found them hilarious. Discombobulated Kirk

$45M to walk away. I would.
With Leno back this could be the beginning of the end of the Tonight Show.

Congrats to the genius execs at NBC for completely fucking up a franchise that's been successful for over half a century. What's next on their radar? The Today Show?

I smell a sly conspiracy here. Anyone remember the "New Coke" fiasco? It worked out great for them.......Jake

I think if there's a conspiracy, it's being masterminded by Jimmy Fallon to become the new host of The Tonight Show sooner rather than later.
