Denice and I have been watching all of these new Vampire based shows on TV. We got started with "Moonlight". A show about a 85 year old Vampire who is a private detective but does not feed on humans. He become friend with a INTERNET news reporter, who he is always getting out of trouble. Also it is a little less traditional on the vampire rules, this group can walk outside into the day the light, they sleep in freezers instead of coffins, and the can not be killed by a wooden stake.
We have found it rather entertaining and we only have one episode left to watch since CBS canceled it after it's first season. Bad move on their part. " The other show we have been watching is HBO's "True Blood." Vampires have gone main stream living among humans by drinking a new synthetic Blood call True Blood. Anna Paquin starts in this. It is a little more traditional vampire rules. We thought that since it clean up at the peoples choice awards last week that it might bee worth a shot and it is.
Both shows are good and if they are available to might want to watch them

I've enjoyed "Moonlight" in the past. I wondered what happened to it, but just assumed it was canceled. Too bad, as it was a good show.
Don't get HBO, being a cheap bastard, so their shows don't show up on my radar.

I continue to protest all of these neo-vampire story lines, they are brainwashing an entire generation into believing that vampires can be our friends, in addition to all of the gross misinformation that Joe pointed out. I believe that there is a huge vampire conspiracy going on so that when they do make their move on us, we will be totally unprepared to take proper action... Barnabas Collins would be proud.

I think you're right. Just like all these UFO, MiB, Roswell type movies are softening us up for the news that aliens are already among us.
Hey, Joe - have you guys tried that new "Vampire Diaries" show? I watched a few episodes before giving up. Seemed kind of teeny-bopper oriented, but maybe that's just my jaded viewpoint.

Don't get HBO, being a cheap bastard, so their shows don't show up on my radar. FWIW, I think you're missing a bet there, big time -- they consistently have *excellent* programming all around (although I don't think you'd want to watch either Bill Maher's show or any of their sports related stuff), plus if you've got hi-def, most of their programming is in that format.

I agree, Beeb. They do. But I'll see them eventually. It's not like I'm hurting for ways to fill my time these days.

I wasn't suggesting you *were* hurting for ways to fill your time, just recommending it as a worthwhile investment, FWIW.

No we haven't. I look at the web site and I agree it is teeny-bopper. Edited to add: I do highly recommend True Blood. We just finished watching the first season(in 3 nights) and it is not teeny-bopper vampire shit. It is a damn good story line with what I thin k is some great writing. Joe

If you add the cost of renting or buy the series (The Soprano's season 4 at one time was $125.00) the additional cost of HBO per month is not that bad. joe.

HBO recently ran the entire season of "True Blood" and Rhonda got me hooked on it before I realize this was just the first season. She said the 2nd is on PPV.
WTF?? Now I've got to PAY to watch the entire 2nd season before season 3 starts?
Someone at HBO is laughing at my ass right now . . . .

BTW, if you already subscribe to HBO, HBO On Demand should *not* be an extra charge -- at least, it's not here in NYC with Time Warner Cable.

Not only are Vampires ruling the airwaves, they have taken over the new releases on the library shelves also ! I asked the librarian why all the vamp books and was told these are the most requested.
"Moonlight" is the only Vamp show I watched, but my Tween grandaughter watches them all, has the posters from "Twilight", the T-Shirt, etc. and has taken to keeping the shades drawn in her room. I'm waiting for the casket bed to appear.
I liked the Rice series of books, but this is overkill !

I tried to read "Interview with the Vampire," but just couldn't get more than halfway through. For one thing, there wasn't nearly enough action to keep me interested. For another, I couldn't get the image He Who Shall Be Nameless out of my head!
