The last couple of weeks, the innermost 30% of my right big toe split, then appeared infected. This got worse and worse and we are planning a trip to Italy, Greece, and Croatia in about ten days so I went to see my friend the foot doctor. He said that if he operated on it right away, I could probably be OK to go on my trip. He cut it open this afternoon and removed the dead tissue which he said appeared to have been caused by an old injury and not something recent, then stitched it up. It has some pain even with Vicodin, but I need to be in the office tomorrow so I will.
It's not really that bad but it gave me something to bitch about here.

My Dad had that a few years before he died. Seems it was caused from an old injury when he retired but worked part time at the loca Ford dealership doing state inspections. Wasn't paying attention and while having a customer pull into the bay the guy ran over his foot. The the old guy got flustered and just sat there.
Same with you - they dissected the dead crap out and he was ok in a few days.
Good luck - trip sounds great!

Tex, I hope you heal alright for your trip. That's horrible. My big toe has been lots of places but never sustained injury. Hope it works out in time.

OUCH!!
Glad to hear you've been able to get your toe treated and hopefully your trip will go ahead with without a hitch.
Any lay overs in the UK on your flights to and from Europe.
Simon (who does not live in Europe whatever the politicians try to make me believe)

I should not have posted while taking the Vicodin - the toe nail split, not the toe (that almost sounds good after the first post). The doctor thought maybe an old injury had left some dead tissue 3/4 inch or so into the area where the nail grows. This morning, I switched from Vicodin to aspirin without it hurting too bad so I will go into the office and work.
Simon, our route is Dallas-Madrid-Venice, hang around Venice a few days, then via ship to Ancona, Italy; Santorini, Mykonos, Athens, Corfu, Dubrovnik, back to Venice. We have been to Italy before and I hung around Venice for a few days in the 70s, but we have always wanted to see the Greek islands and when the economy fell out of bed, they were practically giving some of the trips away, so we figured that this was the right time.

Tolio can be a crippling disease if not caught early and treated properly.

You should leave for your trip as soon as possible -- after all, there's no reason why you should hang around this joint.

And this can happen to you if you toe the line.....
This couple have just met in a bar, really hit it off and gone back to her place to have wild, passionate sex.
After they have finished he lies back with a smug look on his face, "I guess that was just about the best sex you have ever had," he says.
"What makes you say that?" asks the woman.
"Well, every time we did it, I couldn't help notice how it made your toes curl," he explains.
"Oh," says the woman, "that was just because most men wait to take off my pantyhose first."
