I only recently started getting into this show. Thank Allah for DVRs and overnight marathons on USA network! They let you catch up on a show that's been around for five years or so in record time!
Mark Harmon plays the gruff-but-lovable boss in a team of Navy investigators. The rest of the team are the usual collection of stereotyped personalties, but are amusingly realized. David McCallum steals the show as the medical examiner. The entire show has sort of a "Magnum PI" feel to it, which is not surprising if you read the credits regarding producers, directors, etc.
Anyone else a fan of this great show?......Jake

Ah, I didn't know that! Makes sense, though.
Lately I've been watching the older ones with the chick from before Ziva. I don't like her. Like Ziva much better.

Glad to see Mark Harmon finally get a hit. This show and the movie "Presidio" are the only positive points in his acting career. I like him as and actor.
He is the former starting Quarterback for the UCLA Bruins 1972-1973.

Ziva is great character.(played by Cote de Pablo ). Much more personality than the other chick. You will like the way they write her off the show if you haven't seen it already.
David McCallum is great. His best role since "Man from Uncle". Well maybe his only role since then.

McGee (Sean Murray) is also good.

I like the Ohio State (DiNozzo) vs. MIT (McGee) dynamic. But I didn't know Ziva is destined to leave the show! Haven't seen those episodes yet.

Jake, Joe was referring to the departure of Kate from the series not Ziva, the later will be present in the upcoming season.
Love Abby, Pauly Perette looks pretty damn good for just turning 40. Watched the show since day 1 (Ann has a thing for Mark Harmon, so its more out of her interest than mine)

Right there with ya Jake. Since wrenching open the wallet and getting DirecTv/DVR - I have it set to record every episode. Interesting the Cote pulls her character off so well. She plays an Israeli - and yet was born Brazilian. Nevertheless - she's HOT!
edited to add: Out of ignorance I have to ask - is this show still a current series? Or was it 86'ed?
NM..just saw Gordons reply above re: upcoming season. Duhhh.

Oh, good. I was afraid Ziva was destined for that big autopsy room in the sky.
Yep, I heard about the spin-off. They should do it in San Diego, though; huge Navy presence, and very photogenic town.......Jake

I discovered NCIS about a year ago, I guess. I have the TV turned on USA almost every night and just LOVE those NCIS marathons! I love that "my dick is bigger than yours and you are so going to get fucked!" look from Gibbs.
I also like Ziva much better than the other chick. I think it's mostly her looks. She could rack my balls anytime.
Tuesday night is a double header with NCIS and the new NCIS: LA back to back. Can't hardly wait!

USA network is definitely on a roll. Lots of my top favorite shows these days are on there: NCIS, Psych, Burn Notice, Royal Pains, In Plain Sight, etc. And the upcoming "White Collar" looks like it could be good, too, even if it is a retread of Robert Wagner's "It Takes A Thief."

I was pegging it as a rip off of the Dicapprio movie "Catch Me If You Can", which was reality based.

NCIS "classic" was a great kick off to the new season, and a very good character review for anyone who is new to the series. Enjoyed it thoroughly.
NCIS LA SUCKED. I mean sucked BIG TIME. I couldnt believe that I was watching what was supposed to be a department within a military branch. Dont get me wrong about the story. It was well written, and with time, maybe the characters will eventually project a "military bearing", but you had to look deep for that to get past the implementation of the entire idea. In brief, I felt that I was watching a remake of the Starsky and Hutch series rather than a spinoff of NCIS. I gave up on it 40 minutes in, I may watch it again, but not until mid-season.

I missed most of the NCIS due to bad planning on Art's part. He invited his dad and dad's girlfriend for dinner. We sat down at 7 to eat, 20 minutes later they were all glued to the TV while I had to do clean up. BASTARD. OTOH, Art cooked a delicious Indian meal that was somewhat labor intensive. Lamb and potato curry, chickpeas in a tomatoe Garam Masala sauce and Paneer cheese in some spicy gravy. I only caught the last 10 minutes of the show.
NCIS LA was indeed a disappointment. Do they think we're stupid? How can that supposedly vacant house hide the fact that dozens of people work there. Where do they park their cars? You're right Gordon, I didn't feel like the actors/writers developed a story line that showed a military environment, nor the discipline that being in service requires. I think Linda Hunt is a terrific actress but I didn't really get her in this roll. She seemed more motherly. Really…picking out G’s wardrobe…gheesh.

I wondered about that too Anita, or even the need for what is apparently a secret base of operation. I suppose that goes hand in hand with the choice of LA as a location for the show (which I suppose in turn is based on keeping a program budget in line). The way it came off was that this is a group more like that in the show Leverage. I like Linda Hunt as an actress also, but I have no clue "what" she is suppose to be. A nod to the Bond character "Q" perhaps, but I cant help but see the character "Edna" from the movie The Incredibles. IF Linda Hunt was used as a model for Edna, then her current roll in NCIS:LA is nothing more than typecasting...

We have tried 4 episodes of NCIS LA hoping the characters would develop into something more interesting. Nada. We couldn't even bring ourselves to watch it this week. Linda Hunt who is usually very good has been given the worst role and dialog. She acts like a den mother picking out clothes and worrying over the sleeping accommodations of her orphan agent. The stories are loosely based on the military system and simply not credible. An outright flop IMHO.
