I read this on an Orlando Sentinel blog today and thought it made a nice point.
Congress and White House reject Urban Meyer raise.
Congressional Democrats are moving to block Florida Coach Urban Meyer's recent pay hike to $4 million a year, saying the salaries of football CEOs are getting too excessive.
"As soon as we are done with setting payscales at Bank of America, we are going to take a hard look at SEC coaches,'' said House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank. "The American people are fed up.''
White House Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner likewise was critical of bonuses paid to Oklahoma Coach Bob Stoops despite continued losses in BCS appearances.
"The team is losing, yet they continue funneling millions to this guy,'' said Geithner.
Frank and Geithner said their new coaches payscale will be completed next month and submitted to Congress for approval.
Said President Obama, "I can't believe they let Mike Thomas make this stuff up.''
