What the heck happened to Gunnison??? I know with the bridge construction attendance was off, but come on! Drove there in 10 minutes, plenty of parking. Fully 50% of the people were clothed. LOTS of single men, both clothed and unclothed. Most women in swimsuits, some topless, VERY FEW naked. Found NONE of the regulars. Spent about 1/2 hour there.

The traffic on good weather days has been tough and I assume people don't want to deal with 2 hour + delays leaving the park. A few Saturdays ago we stayed till 8:00 just to avoid this situation but still had to wait about 45 minutes.
The weather was fine on the beach and we could see the heavy rain moving across the city and out over the ocean. We played volleyball, swam and enjoyed good food. Another plus was a guy playing the electric piano and watching people dance in the sand. He played every type of music and had professional equipment. All this was powered by car batteries.

Well I guess I was there on an off day. I'm glad, it seemed like the end of an era. I got there about 12:30 Sunday, parked myself next the the lifeguards and took my top off. Started into the water in bottoms (didn't want to be the only girl, and alone at that, with my bottoms off), then thought fuck this, I hate sitting in a wet bathing suit, particularly a cold one, so took it off to go for a dip, sat back down and the number of single men 'strolling by' increased exponentially. I got dressed and left. Even as a seasoned nudist, being in a distinct minority is very unsettling.

Correct -- It's easier for a guy IMHO to be naked on a beach than for a woman when small groups of gawkers are roaming around. If they want to see me laying in the sun reading the paper or drinking beer ----knock yourself out. (unless your a giant gay guy who has other intentions, although I haven't experienced that at Gunnison and never felt unsafe)
But once there was this big guy in a Fort Lauderdale bar I was in years ago...that's another story.
