When people come to Chicago for a visit, they often ask me what they should do. I now have a new thing to recommend: the Untouchables Tour. This has been around town for a long time, and I often see their black-painted school buses running around my neighborhood. But I'd never actually taken the tour until last week. It was lots of fun. As a major gangster geek, I didn't expect to learn much that I didn't already know, but I was wrong. The tour guides showed me stuff I'd never seen, and told stories I'd never heard. And they were very entertaining; it was part theater, part education, and all fun. Two hours for $28, well worth it and highly recommended. There weren't too many photo opportunities, as we never left the bus, so most of the fun was listening to the bizarre tales of 1920s and 30s gangland, and seeing the old buildings and empty lots, and feeling the ghosts of the past. But I did manage to get a few shots in: Here is the bus that took us on the tour: Here is the brewery where Al Capone made his beer: Here is the empty lot that is all that's left of the garage on North Clark Street where the St. Valentine's Day Massacre occurred: And here is the Biograph Theater where Dillinger spent his last evening of entertainment: That's about it. If you find yourself in Chicago, and are interested in gangster stuff, I highly recommend this tour. It's goofy, it's cheesy, but it's a lot of fun. Make your reservations here: www.gangstertour.com/

The title is kind of ironic, given that "the untouchables" were the good guys, and the tour was all about the bad guys.

As Sean Connery said, "It's The Chicago Way".

Well, we are thinking of heading your way next summer. Will keep this on my list of things to do.

More Chicago tourist suggestions:
Another fav activity is Sunday nights at 7pm at the Green Mill up on Broadway...a weedly poetry slam with Marc Smith (still $5 entry?) usually combined with a 2-3 man jazz band.
Don't forget free Thursday nights (5-8pm) at the Art Institute (The "Case for Wine" exhibit was great in July...don't know if it's still running.)
Don't go to the top of the Sears (Willis) Tower (103rd floor)...instead go to the 96th floor bar in the John Hancock Bldg on Michigan Ave. and pay $10 for a drink and sit near the window and see a better view (often with no wait time to do it, unlike the Sears (Willis) Tower ($15 and possible 1 hour wait in line...not even the glass ledge is worth it)

This thread has me looking for different tours in NYC. I've found a few but this Chi-town tour sounds better.

There's a Sex in the City tour but I've never seen the show. There's also a food tour in Brooklyn, pizza, bakery and other niches.
