There's a big uproar in town over a woman who stole over $100,000 from a community organization. I don't care for this woman on a personal level, but I don't want her to go to jail which is quite possible. Somehow I think she just got caught up in the easy access to the funds and her power.
Because it was a volunteer position it was also very social and she picked and choose who she would help and who she would give a difficult time. That was also abuse of power.
Ohh, small town living........

Ohh, small town living........ All the more reason that she should go to jail Gary. She was in a position of trust and abused that trust in addition to the abuse of power that you mentioned. Small town, Wall Street, or Washington DC, the only difference is the scale of the abuse.

Wow Gary. Before I even read the second paragraph I thought she should go to jail. That is a SHITLOAD of money, especially for a small town. Think of all the people that could have been helped with that. I guess after she helped only those she wanted to, maybe this was 'leftovers' which she helped herself to.

Jail? Have you all gone soft? I say flogging followed by a public stoning better fits the crime, though even that might be letting her off lightly.

She took money from a community organization. People worked their ass off to raise money to help others. $100,000 is not pocket ch-ch-change. She should be force to repay it and do some time.

And speaking of stoned, don't forget that next month is the 40th anniversary of Woodstock. A party is order where we can all come as we were.

I guarantee that more than $100000 was missing due to social mistrust after Woodstock

I was a volunteer in the same organization and I donated money annually for 10 years. It adds up to a few thousand but it was for the community at large and I loved the cause. A good friend of mine did the same thing and we worked together.
Anyway, this women did the book keeping which made her a director (1 of 5), I was just on the board which gave me only voting power on the organizations issues.
She made it difficult to get funds internally which caused havoc. (you guessed it, for me and many others!) I was forced to use my own money and sometimes credit card to get what I needed by going around her impossible ways. It was always paid back but after begging and pleading.
The embezzlement issue came to light when checks bounced this late fall and the balance was supposed to be very large. (SIX figures large)
I always thought she took this job to climb socially and the money stealing happened to be a second idea. Many locals believe this too.
People are up in arms because she renovated her house, bought 2 expensive cars and went on vacations.
The last time I spoke to her she told me she was buying a house in town which happens to be a 6,000 square foot Victorian colonial, I'd call it $750,000 in this market.

Man's prosthetic legs stolen during bizarre Englewood incident
July 14, 2009 - Chicago Sun-Times
A police investigation is under way after two teens allegedly removed and stole a 66-year-old man's two prosthetic legs early Tuesday at his the West Englewood community home on the South Side.
At 12:20 a.m. Willbert Weeks contacted police to report that while he was lying in bed watching a show about volcanoes on the Discovery channel, two unknown offenders entered his room at his home in the 6500 block of South Laflin Street, according to a police report.
Weeks, 66, told police that at least one of the suspects struck him on the head with a black handgun and then pulled off his prosthetic legs and ran away, the report said.
The attackers, described as a male and a female between 15 and 18, also allegedly took Weeks' identification card before fleeing out a rear door of his residence and heading northbound down an alley, according to the report. Weeks refused medical treatment and suffered only a minor injury described as a bruise.
The handgun was not recovered and the two teens, both further described as being 5-foot and 110 pounds, were not in custody Tuesday morning for the incident, which was classified as an armed robbery.

The victim wanted to sue the thieves, but of course he couldn't, because.........
