Anyone else watching this USA network show, "Burn Notice"? It's a cute little spy show. The main character, Michael, is a spy who's been inexplicably "burned," that is, dumped by his agency with no explanation. He's on a long-term mission to find out who burned him, why, and get re-instated, all while dodging assassins who want to kill him. That's the "arc" for the series. Each episode, though, revolves around a friend or relative or friend of a friend who comes to him for help, and he uses his spy "tradecraft" to solve their problems.
The tone is alternately light and dark: light comedy between the characters and the little charades they pull off, but serious drama and crime action that need to be dealt with. Each episode is also a primer in some sort of spycraft, from making explosives with household items, to letting someone torture you to find out what HE knows.
Bruce Campbell is his buddy from the old days. Gabrielle Anwar is his gun-crazy IRA terrorist ex-girlfriend, and Cagney (or is it Lacey?) is his chain-smoking mom. Other guest stars drop in as needed.
This show reminds me of a lot of my favorite old shows: it's a lot like the old Maverick with the complex scams. It's a lot like Magnum PI with the chases, sly humor, and expensive beach locations (it's set in Miami). And it's sort of like Brisco County, Jr. with, again, the complex scams, and the banter between buddies. And of course I'll watch ANYTHING with Bruce Campbell in it.
Anyone else seen it?........Jake
