Take Five, the revolutionary jazz classic turns 50 later this month (revolutionary because its 5/4 time signature, and the source of the name of the piece, had never used in jazz before)

Thanks for posting this, G -- I had no idea this was the anniversary. This is one I NEVER, EVER tire of hearing -- which is what makes it a true "classic", by definition I suppose.

I feel the same way. Its one that I try to collect every recording I can find, for the improvisations.

I completely understand -- another song I think falls into that category is Duke Ellington's "In a Mellow Tone".
Perhaps my favorite version is by Count Basie -- that great brass section of his really makes it swing.
