Your pathetic attempts to suck up to me after your rather callous insult is particularly unappreciated. Simon, try meaningless platitudes, they seem to work best

I was going to post a couple of hours ago but got distracted so this may be wasted after I see all that has been posted.
We run both Macs and Windows in our family. My wife and daughter are strictly Mac users. They push a lot of graphics and Mac is the only way to go in that area. I have to agree that they seem to have fewer problems. We have both workstations and laptops. I really like the Mac laptop. It is sleek.
We are forced to run Windows in our business because all of the proprietary software used by our business partners is Windows based. Beeb is dead on about having Boot Camp if you buy a Mac. My wife refuses to give up her Mac so she even uses it at work. Boot Camp has never given her a problem and she is easily able to work in our Windows world.
And I like meatballs too.

That's probably about the end of your useful information, Jo. Good luck!.....Jake You made me choke on my olive (no, no martini, just an olive), I laughed so hard. Thanks everyone. I would buy it this weekend, but still have to convince Den that a) we need a new computer to start with, and b) we need to switch to a mac. I'll try to get him to the Apple store soon so they can dazzle him with their magic. JO (Go Habs Go) PS I like meatballs too!

My wife and daughter are strictly Mac users. They push a lot of graphics and Mac is the only way to go in that areaI disagree. That was once the case, Macs were streets ahead of PCs when it came to handling graphics and became the tool of choice in the design industry, but now there is nothing a Mac can do that a PC can't. Whilst graphic designers have stuck with the Mac for historical reasons, as digital media emerged and grew the PC had a resurgence. Most web designers and developers I know, and have employed, wouldn't dream of using a Mac in this area and see the PC as the only way to go. They, as do I, run all the same software that Macs run such as PhotoShop, Quark Express, Illustrator, Flash, Premiere, Dreamweaver etc, and a file created on a PC with on of these programmes will open without any problems on our Macs. Simon, I actually agree with you but then I run Windows more than Mac. It is always great when you have this discussion with a die hard Mac user. They will argue the point forever about needing it for design work. And their final retort is usually "Yeah well my Mac looks way cooler." And I will give them their due on that point for what it is worth.

I think in some ways, the Mac has suffered by being "forced" to use an Intel chip; while this allows the system to run Windows via the Boot Camp program we discussed earlier, Motorola's processor gave the Mac OS more capabilities. The PowerPC processor suffered from lack of the promised support from IBM's OS/2; with Apple as the only user, it wasn't a cost effective option.

Buy a nice PC and install Linux :-) You can make it look like a Mac and it WILL out perform either on the same hardware. However the learning curve of Linux is bigger, but getting smaller everyday as more and more people get involved and are making GUI's for just abut any task you can imagine in Linux.

Jo, if you need any Mac help give me a call.
I've been Mac exclusive since my first Mac Plus in 1987 -- 1Mb Ram; NO hard drive; 9inch monochrome monitor -- and cost $2500!! Perhaps your new Macbook will be slightly better equipted...

Hey Simon,
No, we've decided to take it very easy and have made almost no plans besides 2 restaurant reservations. We plan to laze the days away drinking at cafes and watching the world go by!

That's a shame, it would have been nice to have met up with you on my side of the pond and shown you a little of London.
Perhaps instead a trip to NY in June for the Hedo party might be on the cards...?

The mac is working out very well, I loved the photo program while we were in Paris and am still learning, but it seems to be pretty user friendly. We even set up a mini network with our pc desktop, our printer and the mac. Maybe I'll even learn to ch-ch-change my avatar and post my own pictures one day!!!
