Hell Jake, if I knew that I'd be making a whole lot more money. LOL!! Something about when we got a new router when the last one blew up that it changed something in the connection set up in the lap top. That's according to the people at D-Link that Brian called today. Now, and this is getting silly, I drove home for lunch to check it out (Brian's home today with one of the kids), and by the time I got there it had stopped working again. Brian just called and said it's working just dandy now. Can I scream yet? Maybe it's me. Deb

Cable and DSL routers typically "lock on" to the first MAC address they see when powered on. If you just unplug one PC (or router) and plug another one in, it USUALLY doesn't work. You have to reset the modem first. I'm still curious why ICQ would work but not Internet Exploder. Possible bad Arp entry in the router maybe? Dunno. Oh well - don't fix what isn't broken now. D

Ok, I AM BACK!!
I just replaced a DC jack on a Toshiba laptop right before we went to Hedo. Here is a run down of what things cost.
The DC jack itself is about 75 bucks, then you are looking at about 3 hours labor. I have replaced a few of these things and sometimes it just won't work, and even if it don't you still have to pay the tech the money for trying. My advice would be junk it and get a new one. You can get some nice machines now for about a grand.

I find that on a pretty regular basis, about once a week I have to shut down my router and cable modem then turn them back on to get things working. I usually shut the computer down as well, then do a cold re-boot after the router and modem are on-line. Don't'cha just LOVE Windows all?

Don't'cha just LOVE Windows all? Like a bad case of crabs. But - credit where credit is due - it's weaknesses have provided me a way to raise my kids, and now pay for my toys and trips! D

The current issue of eweek reports that Windows has now turned 20. Hopefully, when it turns 21 next year, its wisdom teeth will grow in.
