Ahem. If we can get BACK to the subject at hand for a moment...... The new phone books are here! The new phone books are here! No, no, no, that's not it.. Diet Coke with SPLENDA is here! and I'm glad to report that it ain't half bad at all!!! I picked up a 2-liter bottle at the local Jewel store (one of our major grocery chains); haven't seen it anywhere else yet. I've only had one glass of it so far, and not yet under the variety of conditions that science demands, so I don't want to jump the gun on a final verdict. But my preliminary assessment is that it is VASTLY superior to any diet cola I have ever had in my life. First time I've tasted that famed cinnamon-spice taste that I love so much, and have missed so much since I quit drinking THE REAL THING Coke so many moons ago. I even feel, dare I say it, a bit of the famous BURN in the back of the throat! So... get out to your stores and give it a try. I'm really curious what everyone else will think......Jake .....

Ahem. If we can get BACK to the subject at hand for a moment...... And just who the hell do you think you are all of a sudden oppressing the right of us commoners to express ourselves? I just knew this whole "Chief Scoundrel" thing would get to him eventually. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. P.S. www.websmileys.com

Has anyone tried these on the 'other' board yet?? Maybe we can get Bob to do it, since he is so highly respected over there, his posting of one would probably be more tolerated than anyone else here.

Ahem, again. I drank some more of my inaugural 2-Liter bottle of DIET COKE WITH SPLENDA today, and it is getting even BETTER with age (I like it a little flat). It's good in the morning, noon, and evening. It's good with food, and on it's own. It's good sober, drunk, or hung-over like a HORSE. In other words, IT IS COKE, BABY, BACK FROM THE DEAD!!! I also saw today that they sell it at Walgreen's. I'm pretty sure Walgreen's are as nationwide as it gets in this fractioned nation we call the good old US of A (sorry, Simon, OzMale, and our handful of Canadians, don't know if they have them by you), so you all have no excuse for not giving it a try. Looking forward to some opinions from the peanut gallery! .... ..Jake

I had been a bit concerned since this is the 20th anniversary of "New Coke" . and thought this might be a way of 'celebrating'. Gordon

Heading off to my service clubs annual convention. See you guys Sunday. www.websmileys.com/sm/trans/fahr03.gif [/img] Hey that kind of looks like a Mustang doesn't it? Joe.

I finally found this product and tried it. It definitely burns your lips and throat like the original, and it tastes good as it's going down your gullet, but it leaves an aftertaste just like the other version of Diet Coke. I'm still not sure it tastes any different but I'll be willing to give it some further testing.

Well, the research continues. I have in my hand, right here tonight, a bottle of COCA COLA ZERO. Yes, that's right, yet another flavor of dietetic Coke, although it isn't called "Diet Coke". (Much like Tab, which surprisingly is still on the market after all these crazy years.)
This CCZ stuff is made with Nutrasweet, aka Aspartame, just like standard Diet Coke. It isn't nearly as good as the Splenda version of Diet Coke, but is much better than the standard Nutrasweet version. It is pretty much lacking in that famous "burn" quality that all right-thinking people know and love, but does seem to ratchet up the spicey flavor of the Coca-Cola of our misspent youths. All in all, I'd put it in the middle. I can't imagine who they think they are marketting it to, thought.
Any other thought?.......Jake

The Splenda version and the Zero version both arrived here this past week. After looking at the Zero box, I concluded that it was just a marketing gimmick to repackage the old product and give the 'new, product the old name. I am impressed with the Splenda version, not quite up to the "Real Thing", but miles (or kilometers if you prefer) ahead of the old stuff. I dont intend to even try the Zero product.
