I know its happening everywhere, but our gas prices jumped 15 cents today... up to $2.25 ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) Fortunately I filled up a couple days ago, but I doubt that my next fill up will be at a price that is comparable to my last. Maybe I should go top off, while gas IS cheap. Gordon

Simon, how much are you paying for gas (petrol, not LP) in the UK? On the current exchange rate it works out around $6.70 to $7.00 a gallon. I put £40 of petrol in my car every week which would be about $60 to $70. Simon

$2.32 a gallon here today for regular. $ 2.62 for Supreme.
I just ordered 2000 gallons today for my windmachines for frost season. Anyone want that bill?
That will last me one night if we have to run them.

My understanding (I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong) is that EVERYONE pays pretty much the same price for the GAS. It's just that the TAXES are different everywhere. So if your government is taking too much of your cash at gunpoint, you know the solution: vote the bastards out!.....Jake

Could you please send me a tanker load of that $1.84 a gallon stuff? Joe. I'll just email it to you. I think the oil prices have something to do with the increases but most of the regional price increases are due to the refiners being down due to switching from winter formulation from summer formulation in the areas that have the boutique gasoline blends.

Joe, couldnt you run those windmaking machines off of a windmill ?? ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) That's fine, but just don't go stealing my idea for a solar-powered flashlight!! Seriously, though, you could possible use windmills to store up power during the day (attached to a generator and a battery) and then turn it around at night to have the battery power the fans. Maybe even use the same devices for fans and windmills, I'm not sure about that. There would be inefficiencies, of course (second law of thermodynamics and all), but how efficient do you need to be with free energy?.......Jake

True Jake, but if Joe goes through 2000 gallons of fuel in one night, thats gotta be one HELLUVA battery! Definately bigger than a D cell, ![](http://a1259.g.akamai.net/f/1259/5586/1d/images.art.com/images/products/SMALL/10103000/10103929.jpg) definately, yeah, definately bigger Jake... you dont have to worry about the solar powered flashlight... I have my "dehydrated water' to worry about

..... thats gotta be one HELLUVA battery! .... Yup, I thought about that. Here's some preliminary musings: We have these hybrid electric cars which store up energy in a battery, and I imagine they can go quite a distance on a charge. If they hold as much energy as, say 10 gallons of gas, then we only need 200 such batteries to run Joe's system. That's not trivial, of course, but compared to 2000 gallons of gas, *per night*, the investment is bound to pay off......Jake

... or even a fraction of that as a supplement . AND the higher the prices go, the more attractive, financially, the alternatives.
No doubt Joe has already done the calculating and he (or Tex) will point out the flaw!!

Joe,
Does California charge full freight for ag fuel? In Texas, they sell it minus taxes for farm use. Also, if you use diesel, it's just #2 fuel oil.

Joe, Does California charge full freight for ag fuel? In Texas, they sell it minus taxes for farm use. Also, if you use diesel, it's just #2 fuel oil. Tex, I get the following taxes back at the end of the year on off highway use fuel for ag . I have to pay them first then request the refund (sucks doesn't it). We must meter our useage on or off road use to qualify, for the State refund, the Feds are not as picky. All Federal Tax .184 cents per gallon State Tax of .185 cents per gallon So I get about .37 cents per gallon back each year. That's all I get back and I have to pay the full sales tax. We use diesel # 2 in our tractors only since the are off road. That saves us about another .37 cents per gallon. On our trucks and pickups we use diesel #1. But even with these taxes given back, I still shake everytime I get the monthly fuel bill. ![:'(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cry.png) Joe.

Hey guys, thanks for the input but I need raw horse power to keep these baby's running. I have 12 wind machines with Ford 428's turning 350 horse power, turning 7 foot props at 2700 RPM. When we have all 12 running we sound like a fucking airport, along with everyone else in the valley. It would have to be one big fucking battery. I know some guys here have electric motors on their wind machines but the need 3 phase 220 electric power to get them running and they are not as efficient or effective as mine with the Fords running them. Not enough air movement due to smaller props and slower RPMS. We are covering about 120 of vineyards with those, the rest are done by overhead sprinklers on electric pumps. Here is a site for you to get an idea of what they are like. These are the newer up to date models on the site and are not like mine but it will give you an idea. Most of mine where built in the mid 70's to early 80's and the design has changed alot. www.amarillowind.comI'll answer a question before you guys ask it, why don't we ch-ch-change to the newer ones? These cost about $22,000 each installed and in running order. Mine cost between $4000 and $6000 each when we bought them, and they are paid for. Dam it Jake you are an engineer. Come up with something that would work for us and you could become a millionaire over night out here. Joe.

Damn Joe... We got a bunch of those fans of yours here, except that they are catching the wind you are kicking up with those. HEY I do have an idea... you need a MEGA sized Ionic Breeze from Sharper Image!! No moving parts, Whisper quiet, you can probably get some credits for improving air quality, and "the negative ion flow, for cleaner fresher air" will be appreciated by those for miles around ;D ![](http://images.sharperimage.com.edgesuite.net/all/en/images/products/si737snx_pip.jpg)

Okay, Joe, please explain. How does wind help eliminate frost? When I'm standing on an el platform 20 feet in the air waiting for a train, the damn wind doesn't make ME feel any warmer! It's a wind CHILL, after all. So WTF is going on with your grapes? Just curious; the more I know, the better I can design you a good cheap solution.....Jake
P.S. - and one more question. It's March. You're in the same hemisphere as the rest of us (well, except Ozzie), so isn't the weather about to get warmer, not colder? Why don't you wait for fall to buy your gas when it *might* be cheaper?
