I know you've been waiting breathlessly for an update on this story, so here it is... Tonight, when coming home from the gym, I stopped by this building to admire the new signs this guy had posted; other people also chose this opportunity to do the same. I got into a conversation with one of the guys and he told me he'd started a blog about this: Also, if you're interested and have some spare time (and plenty of it), you may also want to visit this marvelous Web site ...

Am I understanding this correctly? He's locked up and can't or doesn't want to make the $1000 bail?

The mop guitar riff is a nice touch.

He recently found an old wooden guitar with no strings and has been using that.

The response of the local culture to someone like this varies greatly from place to place. In Austin, I could see the neighborhood response being similar to what it was in Brooklyn. In Kilgore, I wouldn't give him 2 hours before someone threw him through the plate glass window.

I wouldn't mind doing that myself at this point. He eventually wore out his welcome in south Carolina so hopefully he'll do the same here soon.

Karma my friend, it gets them all in the end (and I'm not talking about the kind we used to have on this here fine message board that certain patient and fiendishly cunning people manipulated). I'm sure it won't be too much longer before he is permanently out of your hair.

I hope you're right. I'm almost inclined to say that he's worn out his welcome, but that would suggest he was welcome in the first place.

Usually if someone wears out their welcome in one place, they will wear it out in the next.

Very true -- but my concern is also once he's eventually driven out, who (if anyone) is going to clean up all of that junk in front of his building?

That building was in poor shape even before he took it over. At one point, it would've been good for a developer to buy it and construct a brand new high end apartment building there. Now, however, I'd hate to see that guy get the money from it (even though it would get him out of the neighborhood).

So long as he's out of the neighborhood, I wouldn't be surprised if the neighbors pitched in to help pay for its removal.

Well, summer's over, so I guess that means it's time for an update ... A few weeks ago, I had a chat with that kid who works in the dry cleaner's across the street. He's in his mid - 20's, so he doesn't remember what the neighborhood was like back in the days when I moved here. As a result, he was shocked to hear an old timer from the area complain about Our Good Neighbor and mentioned, "If this place was like it was back in the day, that fella would've been chopped up into pieces and buried in his own cellar". Apparently, Our Good Neighbor has been really getting on the nerves of some people. In one of the previous photos I posted, you may have noticed a brown colored statue of a lion sitting out front -- actually, he had a pair of them but I think one of them might've been obscured in the photo. Sadly, that lion statue is no more. The other night when I came home from work, I saw the sidewalk in front of his building was covered with broken glass and the lion had been pushed over on its side which caused it to break (decapitation). I haven't seen him around since then. Much of the junk in front of the building was cleaned up and now looks like this: Someone put up a sign saying that all his junk was for sale cheap; I don't think he made the sign because it doesn't look like his handwriting: I won't declare victory just yet, however. It may be yet another one of those instances where he's in jail for a while and will return when they need the cell for someone else.

I have my fingers well and truly crossed for you that you have seen the last of that cocksucker. Thanks, Simon. Time will tell. It's been unusually (but quite thankfully) quiet there lately. Hopefully, it'll stay that way.

Those boards cover up the glass that someone from the neighborhood's Welcoming Committee kicked in, just as a way of saying, "we're really glad you're here".
