Last Friday night Denice and took a tour in San Francisco called Sex in the City. No it's not like the movie or TV show based in New York, it was an actual tour of the sex scene in San Francisco.
The tour started out from Pier 39 with a drive through what used to be the Barbary Coast area in the City. Back then the average male per female ratio was 1000 to 1. Ladies be glad you live in todays world.
After that it was off to the Antique Vibrator Museum on Valencia Street. There we where given a tour and learned about the first vibrators ever built. This informative young man gave us a history lesson of when vibrators where invented, and the types they manufactured and used up to the 1960. Then we where given a tour of todays toys and quick lesson on the amount of research and development done in the engineering of todays toys. They do actual medical research in engineering of these thing. This all took place at a store called Good Vibrations. It is located on Valencia Street. It was about 9:00 PM when we got there and I could not believe how busy the place was. Hell they had more business there than the McDonald's next door.
After our stop there we took a drive over to the Castro District. It happened to be the night of the protest against the defeat of Prop 8. It was confined to about 3 blocks, in a orderly fashion with no violence or destruction property.
After our little trip there it was off to the O"Farrell theater home of the Ivory Snow Girl, Marilyn Chambers, Behind the Green Door and the home of the famous Mitchell Brothers. Well it's was actually Mitchell Brother for a while since Jim shot Artie to death in February 1991. Jim recently died at the age of 63 in July 1997. They opened the O'Farrell Theater in 1969 and at one time owned and operated 11 such theaters in the city. Once inside we got to see some of the posters and props used to make the movie and some of the memorabilia from that time period. (No BB we didn't get to see a show). Behind the Green Door was produced for $60,000 and to date has gross over $25 million dollars. Hey you do learn something new and important everyday. You never know when this type of information will be needed.
Our next stop was at the worlds largest Sex Night Club, The Power Exchange. Before going in our guide gave us a warning that the lower levels where open for business and that patrons would be inside doing........... well you know. If anyone didn't want to go in it was okay to wait outside. We figured WTF we have been to Hedo what the HELL else is there to see. HOLLY SHIT OH DEAR are my glasses dirty or is what I see really happening. Yeah what I see is really happening. Our tour guide gave us the tour of the 3 floor 40,000 square foot, 5 themed room club. Level 1 was the basement refereed to as the dungeon. You want mid evil times on your ass, go there. Level 2 was the mixed club level, anything and every can happen there. That's the free for all floor. You want they got it. It's theme was Horror movies (don't ask me why). Level 3 was the couples and single ladies floor, and Level 4 was the couples only floor. Both levels are themed in Egyptian times (hell if I know why). Level 5 was for the gay and lesbians and was closed to the tour. For those of you who care Level 5 does not open up until after midnight. remember that BB.
The unfortunate thing is this Club will be closed after this Saturday night. The owner of the club and the building, is selling the building. Apparently they building is worth a lot more than the business makes, but they will be reopening at another Bay Area location prior to the end of the year.
After that we got a tour of the few Strip Clubs left on Broadway Street in the famous North Beach area of San Francisco. Our drive also took us on a little side tour to the Haight Ashbury District where we got to see the Greatful Deads house and some other famouse homes.
Our guide told us that this might be one of the last tours since the Power Exchange was closing unless the could strike a deal with one of the other Sex Clubs in the city. They said this Friday the 14th would be their last tour for a while.
Well if you are ever in San Francisco check this web site and see if they still have the tour. It was well worth the $65.00 bucks for the 3 1/2 hour.
