We'll have to compare notes then! I hope it is too! My girlfriend saw it in NY and said it was great - so good she's going with me to the National Theatre.

Just saw the last show in Chicago yesterday. If I hadn't seem the Holy Grail movie I would've enjoyed it a heck of a lot more. All the good lines were straight from the movie, and, like many of us, I can practically quote the movie.
But was fun to walk in last minute and get Row G seats and not pay the Ticketmaster exhorbitant fee.
The stagecrafting and visuals were worth the price of admission ($85) and the gay song number and the finland song were most amusing.
I did want the script to take the humor from the movie even further than they did though. The Stagebill program, however, was terrific for at-home giggling.

Went yesterday and enjoyed it very much - you're right Chris - there's a lot from the Holy Grail movie but I enjoyed it anyway. Brought back some old memories - I remember the first time my sister and I were watching the Holy Grail and the French guy said, "I fart in your general direction", we laughed until we almost peed our pants. Then, for a while afterward, one of us would say that and we'd be off laughing again.
It was very well done but did remind me of the Mama Mia genre - they just took what it is they had from Monty Python and made a musical from it. (in Abba's case it was songs and I think they were the first to do it).
We had dinner at Old Ebbit's Grill in DC - all in all, a very nice day!

Yeah, it's been a while since I've seen the movie - I'd like to see it again too. Will have to rent it or look for it to buy it.

Hazelita and I saw the current Broadway version this past weekend. Although there was nobody famous left in the cast, I thought it was quite good.
I'd say it was two-thirds straight out of the movie, and one-third original. No, that's not quite right, because there was a third category: "Always look on the bright side of life" was lifted out of Life of Brian, but fit well here. So let's say 65% Holy Grail movie origin, 33% original, and 2% lifted from other Monty Python sources.
Anyway, a curious thought struck me: I think this material is BETTER suited to a stage play than it is to a major motion picture. Monty Python humor is, after all, quite stupid and juvenile (and I mean that in a GOOD way!), and plays well in the low-budget video-taped television shows from the seventies. But I always thought their movies were lacking something. Now I think I know why: the humor didn't live up to the lavish production values of the major motion picture experience.
But, translating it to an intimate theatrical setting, where phony horses and cardboard sets seem much more apropos, the snicker-worthy humor is much more fitting......Jake
