We are headed north Saturday. Fly to Detroit to visit Vy's sister in Royal Oak, MI, then drive to Toronto via Niagara Falls to visit some of their cousins.
This was originally planned for this time as a respite from the hot weather, but we haven't had any, so WTF.

Say HI to my old stomping grounds Tex, though RO is a far different place than when I left it.
(If you are REALLY lacking for something to do, visit 1202 S Wilson for the first stop on the bornagaindruid life tour, thats the house I grew up in, thats near Lincoln and Campbell; follow that with St Johns Episcopal Church on Woodward and 11 Mile; and the Beefcarver Restaurant, just north of Woodward and 11, my first real job )
MORE stops on this amazing tour available on request ;D

Gordon, I knew you were from Royal Oak and Anita is originally from somewhere in the Detroit area. I will take my GPS with me so if I have some spare time, I might roam around a little. I have been most places in the US (including the UP of Michigan) but can't remember going to Detroit except ch-ch-changing planes on NW Air once. I have never been to Niagara Falls either so I am looking forward to seeing some new stuff.

Sounds like a great trip you've got planned there Tex. I've been to Niagara Falls a few times and have always found them breathtaking, and especially enjoyed going in the tunnels that take you to the side, then behind, the falls... well worth the admission price.
Simon (who lived in Toronto for six years and is long overdue a visit back to Canada)

Don't forget the barrel ride, Tex! And if you cant do that, the Falls have more vibrating beds per square mile than any city outside of Las Vegas.

Ah good ole Motown. Left in 79 and seldom look back.
I grew up just south of Royal Oak in Ferndale. If you venture down Woodward Ave towards the city, I grew up just a few blocks north of 8 Mile (yes, the same one as the movie) at 294 Adams Ct. (on the west side of Woodward Ave.) with the huge Jewish Cemetary adjecent to my back yard. 8 Mile road is the boundry between Detroit and surrounding suburbs.
I was in Royal Oak last summer. It has changed so much...for the better. I purchased some great Hedo wear at a gay store there too. Damn if I can remember the name of it though.

Not exactly the greatest challenge to get a hole in one there.

It was a bitch to get the ball back out of the hole though.

And it's awkward to ask Rabbi Steinberg for a Mulligan.

Even worse having to cover all the club heads with yamikas before you can enter.

But asking the funeral procession for permission to play through is completely out of the question.

Better than them asking me if they can play through... I hate being rushed, and face it, the corpse can afford to wait for a minute.

But at least the cemetery has better sand traps.

A little on the deep side and difficult to get a proper swing however. Nothing worse that clearing the rim and having a ball hit a headstone back into the trap.

This would make a great idea for a miniature golf course.

Build it in the scenario of a Jewish cemetery and call it, "Putts For A Putz".

...to Toronto...a respite from the hot weather.... Based on how hot and humid it is here today, who knows how much of a respite it will be when you get here. Walking the kid to his babysitter's this morning at 7:30 was already an uncomfortable experience Hopefully this weather doesn't last too long.

This is the coolest summer that I can remember in Texas. It is almost August and we have not had a very hot day yet. Our temps are about what you are having in Toronto.

Well we saw the Jewish Cemetary and hung around Woodward Avenue one evening and watched the cool old cars. Back to Dallas tomorrow.

I'm sure he did and collected a bunch of 'em to take to that dancer in Thailand to see if she could graduate to something more difficult than ping pong balls.

The thought of my grandfather's Titleist in a Thai dancer's ping pong ball shooter is simultaneously exciting and disquieting

Depending on aim, wind and trajectory, she might have as good a chance at reaching the Jewish Cemetery as anyone.
