Went to check out some land on the edge of town for my wife's family in Texas (overpriced Typhoid laden shit hole). We stopped at my wife's distant cousin's fish shop in the port area. I went back to piss (an adventure in iteself) and a rat three times the size of Chico confronted me with a hiss. (There's more to Saigon than the Continental).
If I get rabies, I don't want to get it from an overgrown rat in a Saigon fish market.

They have had stories about tsunamis on the National Geographic Channel today. I guess it isn't really surprising as that devastating tsunami in South East Asia happened two years ago Christmas.

Left Saigon yesterday. Flew to Bangkok, then had a cab ride from hell to Jomptien. The cab had the heater on all the way from Bangkok (1.5 hours) and I opened the windows. The driver ran over a bunch of car parts in the road and damaged the underside of the vehicle, which already had 630,000 km on the clock. I was afraid it wouldn't make it. Then he got lost and fortunately we remembered enough about the town to tell him where to go. Had a nice French dinner last night, a couple of beers, and a massage to steady myself. A Russian girl tried to pick my pocket at the market today and I slapped her hand hard.
The weather is beautiful, sunny, and warm. We will go out with friends from Texas tonight for New Years.
Everyone have a happy and safe New Year.
BTW, I saw an asian girl at the Saigon airport with a T-shirt saying:
"Do women why come in different color?" As BB would say "Exactly." Speaking of which, I would bet that the coliform count in the Hedo hot tub has spiked. Just kidding BB, I hope your problem with the airline got straightened out.

It sounds like you're both having quite an adventure on your travels Tex!! Can't wait to hear more about it, and see some pics, on your return. Have a happy new year, stay safe, and keep your eyes peeled for any more of those pesky Russian pickpockets!!

Hired a car to Bangkok, then flew to Phuket for a few days. Will take a boat out to Phi Phi Island (where "The Beach" was filmed)
BTW, in Pattaya, they have guys out on the street with something bigger than an index card which they show you. In pencil:
Pussy smoke cigarette 40 baht Pussy shoot dart 20 baht Pussy write name 50 baht etc. etc.
I have already seen all of the above so did not see it again. I have had a couple of "oil massages" (wink wink) since my arrival.
The internet is slow here so will fil you guys in a little better from home.
The best to all of you.

Got a touch of food poisoning. It sounds gross but my tried and true cure for this is to buy a two liter bottle of water, force yourself to throw up, drink some water, repeat for about six times. Got over it in a few hours and was on the boat to Phi Phi Island (The Beach) the next morning. I was quite surprise at the souvenir shops on Phi Phi Island. I expected themes from the movie, but there was more Bob Marley stuff and even a hat with the Texas flag and outline. Did I need to come here for that?
Jamaican music is quite popular here, several reggae bands. My wife's niece in Saigon told me her favorite music genre was Dancehall.

Good to hear you got over your food poisoning so quick Tex. I'll remember your cure for the next time I get it. It seems like you've been gone for weeks... are you sure you haven't moved out there permanently? Simon

My wife mentioned that all of the Russian women were beautiful (and most of them that we see are) but possibly the ones who resemble Mrs. Khruschev are stoking stoves in Moscow or Vladivostok instead of spending holiday in Thailand.
Simon, we haven't moved but are flying back to Texas tommorow night. there will be much work to do before we go to Hedo in April (or next trip).
BTW, I spoke to a couple of English teenagers this morning and one said "Texas" before I could get three words out of my mouth. I said "Limey" before he could say much and we all laughed.

Given all the places he has visited, sounds like a "No Fly" tag on his passport records could save this country a lot of money, call it preventative medicine.

Should someone alert Customs that Tex is inbound?? I'm sure if CNN knew about this they would be all over it.
