I also use that word "Voluptuary" in my vocab quizzes to my Engl Comp students (along with Lascivious, Lewd, Carouse, Debauched, Hedonistic, Titillate, etc.) Given the content, it sounds less like a vocabulary quiz than a verbal Rorschach test. ... And welcome back, BTW.

If she was literally "volumptuous", she should've had it biopsied.

"Cluster Fuck". Courtesy of the original "Gary" (Georgette) in referring to the late season shopping madness. A mission, operation or activity gone bad. Confusion.
(I thought it was yet another sex position I've yet to learn even after 19 years of marriage)
(or a Hedo specific position requiring 3 or more people)

I took it to mean the british slang of "pull" which I believe means to pick up a date or a one night stand. I'm sure Simon can correct me if I'm wrong.
Zilla (who thought "clusterfuck" was a midwest term)

I thought everyone knew cluster fuck. I don't remember where I learned "clusterfuck" but I've used the term many, many times. I know I didn't learn it in the Navy (never been, nor do I know anybody in the Navy) and I didn't learn it in the Midwest 'cuz until I met Jake I'd never been there either. So it must be a New York thang.

As for FUBAR, I think that one is catching on. In software development, the word has been bastardized into "foobar" -- doesn't stand for anything as FUBAR does, just a different spelling. Frequently used to refer generically to some kind of input as in If x=foo And y>bar Then GOTO :END

Word of the day for Tuesday, December 27, 2005, from Merriam-Webster WotD email:
snivel (SNIV-ul) verb
1 a : to run at the nose b : snuffle 2 : to cry or whine with snuffling *3 : to speak or act in a whining, sniffling, tearful, or weakly emotional manner
*Indicates the sense illustrated in the example sentence.
Example sentence: Mom told Jenny to stop sniveling about how mistreated she was and just do her chores.
Did you know? There's never been anything pretty about sniveling. "Snivel," which originally meant simply "to have a runny nose," was probably "snyflan" in Old English. It's likely related to "sniffle," not surprisingly, and also to an Old English word for mucus, "snofl." It's even related to the Middle Dutch word for a cold, "snof," and the Old Norse word for "snout," which is "snoppa." There's also a connection to "nan," a Greek verb meaning "flow." Nowadays, we mostly use "snivel," as we have since the 1600s, to refer to self-pitying whining, whether or not such sniveling is accompanied by unchecked nasal flow.
I wonder if it is also related to snot?.......Jake
