I loved "Blue Thunder." But my favorite Roy Scheider movie has got to be "52 Pick-Up." Great revenge flick. If you haven't seen it, go rent it......Jake ("Seven-Ups" being a close second) I'd throw Jaws into the mix. When it comes to memorable quotes "youre gonna need a bigger boat" it tops the list.

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – A postoperative scan of Billy Graham's brain following a surgery to update a shunt that controls excess fluid is encouraging, his doctor said Thursday as the world-renown evangelist continued his recovery. “It looks fine,” Dr. Ralph C. Loomis said. “He's doing well and is alert and articulate. We're pleased with his progress.” www.signonsandiego.com/news/nation/20080214-1816-graham-surgery.htmlpsssst.... Come on Billy, I knows, youse got another decade left in you.

If for some ungodly reason, the likes of Castro, Chemical Ali, Farrakhan, Osama bin Laden, Sadar, make it through 08, they will be on my 09 list. That way I can do some cheering.

I always had a lot of respect for Buckley, articulate and respectful, and a great interviewer.

I recently read his very first novel 'Saving the Queen'. An interesting and telling look at the training of the early CIA operatives.
I didn't know he was still alive either. A very smart dude and I enjoyed his books.

It doesn't look like any of you had Gary Gygax either, which I guess isn't surprising since even I didn't remember who he was, and I had met the man once. Zilla (your local scifi/fantasy/anime nerd)

No one picked Patrick Swayze either.... if the story is true that is really kind of sad - he seems like a pretty nice guy and way too young and healthy to be checking out any time soon. www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,335210,00.html

Let's hope nobody puts Swayze in a corner....
With Jeff Healey buying the farm a few days ago, and now this, Sam Elliot better watch his ass......

I saw this story about Patrick Swayze earlier. He was over here a year or so ago. I think he was staring an a production in London's West End (our theatre district). I caught him being interviewed on some of our chat shows and was struck by his enthusiasm and how friendly and genuine he came across. This news is very sad and I hope the source has got it wrong.

psssst.... Edited to stay on topic. Big odds in Patrick Swayze (100/1) Celebrity DEATH WATCH: Happy New Year Britney! Has young Spears kicked off the decline already? As the bells clanged to welcome the world to 2008, fate was no doubt busy calling time on some fragile celebrity lives. Whether this lot will make it to 2009 is anyones guess, and yet the predetermined life of Britney appears to be hurtling towards the expected suicide finish. But will the legend be cemented before Lohan gets her drunken hands on some premature death? Britney Spears (5/4) Former child star, now a barking madwoman, Britney is the Judy Garland (barbiturates overdose, 1969) for her generation. Constantly under the glare of the spotlight, she has aired her genitals, shaved her hair, guzzled booze, taken her little babies hostage, been strapped into a hospital bed, and - worse still - taken a paparazzo for a boyfriend. Garland’s Wizard of Oz co-star Ray Bolger noted that the former child actress “just plain wore out”. Britney's old colleagues presumably find her equally worn out/bananas. Lindsay Lohan (2/1) The whisper on the street is that Lohan has already had a couple of bashes at ending it all, both about as successful as her smooth passage into adulthood. Now battling to stay away from drink and drugs, her demonstration on how to drink champagne straight from the bottle on New Years Eve hints that she isn't quite as "sober" as people might suggest. May yet emulate the great Marilyn Monroe (sleeping pills, 1962) by dying prematurely. Amy Winehouse (5/1) The mountainous lines of cocaine, the gigantic horse-filled needles, self harm, body issues and an incarcerated husband – none of them conventional ingredients for a long and happy life. As things stand she looks most likely for some kind of Sid Vicious (1979)/ Janis Joplin (1970) heroin-based misadventure. Owen Wilson (8/1) Rumours abound that the prominently-nosed actor liked to steamroller his way through the Playboy mansion and now he's been spotted wondering around in America with his shoes off - a sure sign of having problem (the guy can easily afford NICE shoes). Global bad-boy Steve Coogan took him on a tour of drugs hell last year - might the journey continue, making him the next John Belushi (cocaine/heroin overdose, 1982). Pete Doherty (10/1) It’s all very well Doherty lording it up on Civvy Street, repeatedly in and out of court for committing exactly the same crime of parading around with a variety of drugs spilling from his pockets. But his next appointment with a judge could see him doing hard time, complete with ritual shower beatings. An early death would surely fit his rock star fantasy, which grubby tabloids would insist parallels Sid Vicious, but which Doherty would no doubt see more in the vein of Nick Drake (overdose, 1974). Robbie Williams (18/1) Williams has spent years droning on and on about how fame might look brilliant, but actually he’s really down about it. A British institution in the same mould as Tony Hancock (suicide, 1968), he might soon jack it all in. "Things just went wrong too many times," said Hancock in his suicide note. Could Take That flying high again be classed as yet another thing ‘going wrong’ for the smirking performer, and recovering espresso addict? The other runners Steven Segal (50/1) Hollywood gossiping circles insist that Segal is in a slough of despond at the state of his once-glorious career. He could yet rise to tenth-Dan status in a mystical martial art that involves simple household ropes, an overhead fan, and a stool. Sylvester Stallone (80/1) Once overheard shouting “cup my balls” to a fellating stranger during a fire alarm in a hotel, Sly could prove to be the next Michael Hutchence (trousers down, hotel room, belt, 1997). Such disregard for health and safety combined with a deep yearning for sexual adventure might just be Rambo’s Achilles heel. Patrick Swayze (100/1) James Dean (car smash, 1955) died thanks to his love of fast cars and danger. Hollywood wild man Patrick Swayze has a similar problem – dicking around with helicopter controls on his way to the Sundance film festival, when clearly out of his mind on cocaine. Could surprise everyone by dirty dancing his way to an early(ish) grave. "Patrick Swayze (100/1) James Dean (car smash, 1955) died thanks to his love of fast cars and danger. Hollywood wild man Patrick Swayze has a similar problem – dicking around with helicopter controls on his way to the Sundance film festival, when clearly out of his mind on cocaine. Could surprise everyone by dirty dancing his way to an early(ish) grave." Well folks, the odds sheet got a hit, or death, or point, or however, you score in the sport of Deadpooling. psssst.... Yes, he did surprise everyone by dirty dancing his way to an early grave.
