Kay, Joe, please explain. How does wind help eliminate frost? When I'm standing on an el platform 20 feet in the air waiting for a train, the damn wind doesn't make ME feel any warmer! It's a wind CHILL, after all. So WTF is going on with your grapes? Just curious; the more I know, the better I can design you a good cheap solution.....Jake P.S. - and one more question. It's March. You're in the same hemisphere as the rest of us (well, except Ozzie), so isn't the weather about to get warmer, not colder? Why don't you wait for fall to buy your gas when it *might* be cheaper? Dam you ask lots of questions! ;D We use the wind to drag the warmer air down (inversion layer) and also to maintain an air flow to keep the frost from settling on the vine. Oh yeah it is warming up during the day but around here at night it can drop below freezing. This can happen anytime during march and mid April out here, more common if we have a rain storm and then it clears out. Can't tell you anymore I ain't the weatherman. We buy the gas know for a couple of reasons. We can't just leave it in the machine's. Gas has a habit of going shall we say flat for a better use of the word if left stored to long. Next is security, it's okay for a couple of months to keep it in the machines but lots of individuals like this type of cheap late night gas stations. No matter how we try to lock them they always seem to break in. Just spent $150.00 on special no cut lock on two machines that we always have trouble with. Next it's going to be a bullet in someones head. We have covered every base on these issues, but there is nothing we can do to ch-ch-change it. I would love find a way to cut this expense, but none has been found yet. Let me add on thing. We also remove the unused fuel and use it during the other months of the year. Joe.

Joe, I might mention to you that "Stabil" additive works pretty well to keep the gasoline from varnishing up.

Thanks Tex, never heard of it will ask my fuel supplier about it.
With that I am out of here until tomorrow. Time to start spraying and we crank up at 5:30 tonight until 5:30 am tomorrow. Talk to everyone later.
No gas usage tonight only about 100 gallons diesel.
Joe.

You can get it at any auto supply and maybe even a Wal Mart type store. A little goes a long way. I use it in small engines and boat motors.

WTF, there is a big difference in gas prices. On the news tonight here are a some they showed.
LA $2.89 a gallon Texas $1.97 a gallon Florida $2.05 a gallon.
I know we have a high tax rate per gallon out here but even if you take the .234 cents per gallon for the California Taxes we still aren't even close. That would make LA $ 2.65 per gallon.
Here it has topped $2.45 a gallon. Oh well!
Oh yeah, more good news chance or frost here tonight and the next couple of nights.Might have to run my wind machines. I am taking donations for the fuel people, all contributions would be appreciated. ;D ;D ;D

Red Dye Diesel $2.48 per gallon What is Red Dye Diesel? In the UK farmers can buy diesel that has red dye in it, it's known as pink diesel, to use in agricultural vehicles and machinery. The taxation levied on it is very low so it is much, much cheaper than regular diesel, and it can't be bought at the petrol (gas) station, they must have their own tank installed and the diesel is delivered by tanker. It's illegal to use a vehicle containing pink diesel on the public highway and fines are steep for those who are caught using it or selling it on. Is Red Dye Diesel a similar thing? Simon

In England, 100 miles is a long way. Here, that is a couple of errands. Looks like they'll soon be expensive errands. Welcome to our world. We just traded Sam's SUV for a Mini Cooper. With my car too we just couldn't justify the cost of running two big cars and spending around $100 - $140 between us a week on petrol (gas) just to go a few miles to and from work and run a few errands. Okay now I am pissed.
We have been dodging the bullet on having to run our wind machines, but last night the old frost showed up and we had to. Just ordered 1000 gallon of Gas at $2.78 per gallon. Went up .10 cents since yesterday. My ass really hurts today. That's what you call getting fucked with no kiss, and provide your own Vaseline.
Even since I get .36 cents a gallon back from the off road tax usage that still makes it $ 2.42 per gallon.
Joe.

Not to rub it in, but gas prices actually dropped last night here, from $2.139 down to $2.099. Still way to high but at least heading in the right direction. Only hope that it can continue for a little while.
