When Rod Serling has a character following you across the country you can be pretty sure the personification of death has been patiently and persistently waiting for you to realize that you have been dead all along. On the other hand, maybe its just a coincidence... maybe. But if no one has been stalking you, maybe you can tell who has death's avatar on their tail. Without Beeb or RH participating this year, we are down to just 10 players. We have a total of 49 names on the list. Zsa Zsa Gabor was selected by 7; HW Bush, Hugo Chavez, Kirk Douglas, and Margaret Thatcher were chosen by 6 players each. Fidel is next with 5. 33 of the 49 names are unique to one person. Nola, for the second year in a row, has produced a completely unique list. Tex's list has no unique names, Ron and Simon each have 2 unique names, everyone else has 3 or more. Actually you picked San Musial, which I figured must be in "the valley" out there in Cali, but when a Wiki search for that came up empty I had the revelation that you actually meant Stan Musial.
He didnt come up on my radar because he hasnt made any headlines about illness (that I have seen). I see that his wife died last May, which could be point in your favor for picking him (they were married for 72 years)

I love older athletes. The physical abuse their bodies took over many years was excessive and without the benefit of modern medicine. Plus many of them were big drinkers and smokers in keeping with the era. They are a recipe for disaster.
At the same time I am skeptical of older politicians like ex presidents. You just know they are getting the absolute best health care available coupled with extraordinary medical effort by their attending physicians. To me it has to be a truly major medical malfunction such as Hugo Chavez and his cancer to be able to confidently push them over the cliff.
Just my two cent on this second day of 2013.

Not only did his long-time wife recently pass away (a huge point), but he is several years into an Alzheimer's decline.

Mostly just a hunch. His disease looked like the surest thing. Folks I've heard of with bone cancer tend to go quickly. Of course, that's just anecdotal evidence on my part, since IANAD.

We lost our boy, number 1 son Hunter our 8 year old coon cat and we can't stop crying. This is the first I have gone public with his passing. He was so very special and our house seems so empty. |

My reason (or "excuse", in Jake-speak) is that right before I went away on vacation, I had to scramble to upload my last blog post of the year, then program the automated Tweets to be sent on Twitter. I just plain ran out of time. There have been years when I didn't play, so I have no problem with skipping this one. |

I have only changed two listings from last year. The first is the one hit I did get last year and the second is replacing Barry Gibbs who I listed in error intending to list Robin Gibbs...doh.
