Great idea! I'll give that a try. I hear there are several rendition options to torture friendly North African despotic states from here.

HOME... finally. Return trip was delayed by a day when our plane for the flight out of Basel arrived late at the gate and with a fire engine escort. A bunch of people immediately went to the nose landing gear.
The flight was typical misery. From my FB post on the subject...
Pictures will be posted in a couple days.

No mention of food? It was Lufthansa -- did they serve bratwurst and cabbage to make everyone in coach fart all the way home?

Allegedly, what we were served was Thai Chicken for the main meal and a tarte flambée for the snack. We got REALLY lucky here. Serving of the Thai Chicken started in the back and moved forward. We were in the last row that got the chicken, everyone else in steerage forward of us had to take the vegetarian alternative. The tarte flambée was served from the front row moving back... we were in the last row that got the non-vegetarian version of that. The tarte flambée was basically a PopTart pastry with goat cheese.

Welcome back!
Best transatlantic flight I ever had was a Business Class seat on Swiss Air. Fully reclining seats, gourmet food, endless Bombay Sapphire; I didn't want to get off that plane!

Its taking a while to go through the tons (or tonnes for that matter) of photos the ladies took on this trip. But I thought I would put this one up, as it is a favorite of mine. The extra night in Basel due to the cancelled Lufthansa flight, the airline put us up in a nearby hotel that had this restaurant. If it wasnt for the flat floor, I felt I walked into a part of the space station in 2001:A Space Odyssey that was not seen in the movie. The wall in the back was slowly going through the color spectrum, as was that lighted area on the ceiling.. and not always in complimentary colors. Retro chic? Maybe, but for me it was more of a time warp.

Ann and I and Heather and I enjoy both the scenery and the beautiful weather on the top of Jungfrau. About 13,000 feet. Literally, Jungfrau translates as "Young woman" but usually means "virgin" Edited: Since we were at the crest of the mountain here, the wind was conveniently blowing up from underneath us, sending the snow up my pants.

The cogtrain headed up to Jungfrau. The last stop in the village of Wengen, and a waterfall near the town of Lauterbrunnen

Closest thing I have to a beaver shot.. regrettably, this is a marmot. In France having a stork nest on your roof is considered good luck. A lot of houses have stork nest platforms built onto them. I guess the good luck is meant to compensate for the mess.

Even if I had been on this excursion with the girls, I would have been the pussy and NOT gone on this ride.

These room heaters were in just about every room in the two castles we visited in France. They are covered with very ornate ceramic tiles. The servants would feed wood into the furnaces from an opening in the wall in the adjacent room, so they would not bother the Lord and Lady...

Great pictures G, I admire the old world charm and modern combination (restaurant and transportation). It looks very clean there particular at the train station. Another thought -- at 13,000 feet I imagine snow is a steady occurrence.

These are great photos Gordon. I've never seen anything like that room heater, and my palms were sweating just looking at the cable car picture!! Great beaver shot too...
They kind of make me ashamed of how little of Europe I have visited, in fact I have seen more of the US than Europe.

I agree, there's no better site than a beaver sitting in the warm sun. (well maybe 2 beavers sitting in the sun)
