Anyone hear their new CD??
Anyone still pissed off at them for their foot in their mouth comments?
Anyone planning on buying it? The DJs apparently aren't playing their first single release because it's too controversial but say the CD is good and they should have released something ELSE first.
Just wondering....
I like them despite their political leanings (which I prefer to separate from their music). Everyone is entitled to their opinion....

They were very funny recently on Howard Stern's show. When they were on, I think they performed "Landslide", the Stevie Nicks song -- sounded good.

IMHO, they alienated forever their most likely audience. They will have some go out of the way to go to one of their concerts to show political support for them, but that crowd won't stay with them in large numbers.
I don't have any problem supporting artists who don't share my political slant. My favorite actors are Paul Newman, Jack Nicholson, Robert DeNiro, and the late Walter Mathau but Natalie Maines can go fuck herself forever. If she has to work at the Dairy Queen, that's cool with me.

I often wonder what it is about these chicks that make us think they have any intelligence what-so-ever. They should stick to singing. When you see them try to talk politics, they are bumbling idiots.

The only reason these celebrities shoot off their mouths is because they can draw the media to hear them.
As far as the Dixie Chicks question, Jake answered for me.

There is nothing more pathetic than when someone who is not too bright takes themselves seriously and tries to say something profound.

Would you think a person who will rant and rail about an opinion expressed by someone that the consider to be stupid/not too bright is almost as pathetic?
Zilla (who thinks opinions expressed by celebrities are only that, opinions)

Zilla I think it's the attention given celebraties more than the actual opinion, in many cases. Why should they have such access to the media simply because they get paid alot to sing/act/what-ever?? Does anyone *really* think that by simply becoming a scientologist, you are therefore an expert on psychology?? And yes, I think Tom Cruise is a pure idiot . . . .............Bob

I also don't think having a differing opinion makes your work any less valuable. It is simply that - an opinion. Whether 50 people read it on a message board or 50 million hear it on Fox News or Entertainment Tonight. I believe that you have the right to say whatever you want unless it infringes on the rights or lifestyle of someone else. Which to me means everyone has the right to agree or disagree with me, but no one needs to tell me to shut up and practice making Blizzards because my opinion is different from theirs.
Also Tex - why does Natalie Maines deserve to work at Dairy Queen for having a different opinion to yours, but the male artists you mentioned are fine to continue with their acting and political activism with your respect for their differing opinion?
I spoke to Emily Robison last fall and she is a nice gal with an extraordinary job and a pretty down to earth family. After writing letters in support of the Dixie Chicks right to an opinion when this whole thing started three years ago, I also began boycotting my local country radio and their advertisers and continued to spend my money on music I like regardless of an artist's political leanings.
I really don't mean to disrespect anyone else's opinion, but it royally pisses me off when women (famous or not) get chastised for saying what THEY think and beat down by the general public for saying what THEY believe because the idea isn't popular or they don't have a degree in that subject. Maybe more people feel the same way they do, but are afraid to say something because of the social repercussions. After all it is just their personal opinion on a particular topic.
And if being a bumbling idiot and making stupid/not too bright choices precluded you from making political statements C-SPAN would only have about 30 minutes of programming a day.

...Also Tex - why does Natalie Maines deserve to work at Dairy Queen for having a different opinion to yours, but the male artists you mentioned are fine to continue with their acting and political activism with your respect for their differing opinion?... Hilary Because it has nothing to do with male/female and everything to do with respect and decorum. The artists that I mentioned are no shrinking violets but haven't gone to a foreign land and trashed the POTUS in such a manner. IMHO, their civility gets their views much more serious consideration from the audience than some mindless inane rant. I didn't say prosecute the girl, just that I will never spend a dime on her again. Someone has to do the chocolate dip cones. Why not her?

I don't think the "Chicks" uproar had any thing to do with their gender. It was more about time and place to me and the words said. I like some of their music...will I ever buy it? Probably not. JMHO

okay, so just to hear *exactly* what was so offensive in the words, i'm gonna ccp them into this thread....cause honestly, i don't seem to get it. the woman expressed her opinion, it doesn't appear that she tried to speak for a majority of Americans, just for herself and her bandmates....
"Just so you know, we're ashamed the President of the United States is from Texas."
Wow, with words like that Al-Qaeda probably cheered and had a block party.....at least right up to the point when Country Music fans showed them what we are really worth and started banning and burning media, because everyone knows that Al-Qaeda hates it when we ban and burn. (zilla mutters something along the lines of "talk about giving comfort to the enemy, and they really don't see how their actions could be interpreted that way...nor will they listen to me if i try to show them...sad")
I'll will go on record as saying that being a one time texan, I'm also ashamed. Not because i disagree with the man's philosophies (although i frequently do), but because he presents himself in such a manner that he appears to be a bumbling idiot. I don't like being represented by someone who appears to be a bumbling idiot. That is just me. Apparently many of you have no qualms about that, in fact, some of you seem to take great pride in it.
So please, try to help me understand *exactly* what was so offensive about their statement?
Zilla (again, this was a country music singer speaking, how much value is really placed on ANYTHING they say?)

if you guys are "paying homage" to a fellow poster, i have to say that i don't find it any more amusing than i did here Perhaps if he were playing along with you i would feel less likely to defend, but he doesn't seem to be, so i feel i should point out when it appears you are behaving ungentlemanly. I don't expect my defense to be appreciated any more here than it was there though. zilla (maybe i have just lost my sense of humor, but fair is fair)

I don't really care, but I suspect you already knew that. yes, i imagine you aren't the only one who doesn't care, but i live by my ideals. I believe you would have even less respect for me if i said how much i care about the suffering of people and then allowed what i considered to be random unreciprocated abuse to continue unabated. Zilla (since the victim has acknowledged he does not feel it is an attack, continue "paying homage" without further remark from me)
